Will of Reverend John Blake, Clerk of Yeovilton, Somerset - The National Archives PROB 11/1543/165, probated 3 Apr 1813

The testator is the Reverend John Blake living at Yeovilton. He names his wife Elizabeth but does not name his children in his will. He does appear in the Clergy of the Church of England Database. He did his BA at St John’s College, Cambridge as well as his MA. He was ordained deacon 24 Dec 1801 (Richard Beadon at Gloucester, special ordination 25 Dec 1801 at St George Hanover Square) and ordained priest 7 Oct 1804  (John Fisher at Exeter). He served as Curate at Oare and Preston 1 Apr 1802, then Creacombe 8 Oct 1804 and finally Rector at Yeovilton 20 Nov 1805 to 19 Jan 1813. He died 19 Jan 1813. He was Vicar at Pilton 16 Apr 1812 to 5 Jun 1813. He died at Heavitree. Looking at The Monthly Magazine 1813 (Hants, Berks, Somerset, Dorset, Devon, etc on page 187) Died: The Reverend John Blake, A.M. nephew of the Lord Bishop of Bath and Wells, rector of Yeovilton, and vicar of Pilton.

It would appear that the testator is the nephew of Richard Beadon who was Lord Bishop of Bath and Wells from 1802 until 1824. From his will his wife may be a sister to Charles Steer mentioned as his brother in law.

John Blake (father of the testator) married Agnes Beadon 11 Jun 1777 at Oakford, Devon and according to Wikipedia page for Richard Beadon, Richard was born at Pinkworthy, Devon son of the Reverend Robert Beadon, Rector of Oakford. Agnes was baptized 5 Apr 1745 at Oakford daughter of Robert and Mary (Squire) Beadon. The testator is probably the John Blake baptized 26 Apr 1779 at Chittlehampton, Devon son of John and Agnes Blake.

Children of John and Agnes (Beadon) Blake:

John baptized 26 Apr 1779 at Chittlehampton
Agnes baptized 9 Oct 1785 at North Molton
James baptized 21 Sep 1788 at North Molton
Mary baptized 29 Jan 1792 at North Molton

OPC site for Yeovilton, Somerset, church dedication is St Bartholomew.
