Watier dit Lanoie family

Another brickwall that took some time to work my way through was the Lanoie family who were living near Sturgeon Falls ON in Calvin near Bonfield in Nippissing County from the 1880s on into the 1900s. Mary Dora Lanoie was born 22 Feb 1891 on Lot 11, Concession 1 Calvin, Bonville, Nippissing, Ontario and baptized 15 Mar 1891 at Mattawa Ontario. Dora was the daughter of Félix Lanoie and Céline Rhéaume.

What a simply wonderful clarification. Working my way back, I did find the marriage of Félix Lanoie and Céline Rhéaume 24 Jul 1878 at Cyrville (near Ottawa), Ontario.

The marriage registration takes us back to the parents of Félix Lanoie; namely Jacques Lanoie and Emélie Boileau. Finding this marriage proved to be a real challenge. I simply never found a Jacques Lanoie so I started searching online to see if anyone else was researching this family. I discovered that the name had been used as Wathier dit Lanoie and that one side of the family used Lanoie and the other Wathier. With that knowledge I began searching once again and found the marriage of Jacques Wathier and Emélie Boileau 9 Jan 1832 at St Michel, Vaudreuil. Jacques Wathier was born 31 Oct 1808 at Vaudreuil and he was buried 3 August 1866 at St André Avellin. Certainly the right location for Félix Lanoie who was said to be of St André Avellin on the marriage registration with Céline Rhéaume.

Wonderful information (and I will work on the transcription) to help place these two young people in their correct families.

The marriage of Antoine Wathier and Marie Josephte Dubois took place 17 Oct 1796 at Vaudreuil. Their marriages lines will take longer to transcribe as the page is somewhat blurry but I am able to extract the names of Antoine's parents Thomas Watier and Marie Josephte Lalonde. Searching for their marriage in Tanguay it was 17 Feb 1749 at Bout de l'ile (Montréal). Thomas was born in France and was a Royal Notary the son of Thomas Watier and Jeanne Agnier.

Thomas Watier is the emigrant and thus Generation 1.
Antoine Watier married to Marie Josephte Dubois is Generation 2.
Jacques Wathier dit Lanoie married to Emélie Boileau is Generation 3.
Félix Lanoie married to Céline Rhéaume is Generation 4.
Mary Dora Lanoie is Generation 5 (married to Joseph Télésphore Augustin Lauzon)

I would like to know about Thomas Watier to include in this family history so will pursue that information on the next research day.
