1. FT DNA Project:
There are now 236 members in our H11 project. Full sequence results are completed on 208 members of the group. Interestingly 163 members of this group have also done Family Finder. Unfortunately it is not possible to visually look at the Family Finder results as that would compromise the privacy of individuals. However, you can look at your matches in Family Finder.
2. Project Statistics (yDNA statistics removed):

3. The latest release of the phylotree used by FT DNA was dated 18 Feb 2016:
H11 breakdown in the PhyloTree mt:
Within the study group we have members in every sub-haplogroup except H11a5 (and it can be seen in the chart above that the mutation C15040T marks this subgrouping).

4. National Geographic Project Update:
Branch: H11
Age: 10,800 +/- 7,300 Years Ago
Location of Origin: Europe
During the last glacial maximum members of this lineage took shelter in refugia within Europe. As the ice melted, these groups moved across Europe, resettling.
Today, this lineage is present most often in the Netherlands, where it is about 3% of maternal lineages. It comprises 2% of the population in Austria, Poland, and Denmark. Elsewhere in Europe, it is present in low frequencies around 1%. Note is also made that this branch is not accompanied by a major movement on their map and research on this branch is continuing.

An interesting way to look at the material in each project. Looking at the results it does perhaps give assistance to those still looking for the location from which their ancestor may have traveled in the case of people in the Western Hemisphere but nearly half of the members of our project live in Europe. I think the project will need to be much larger to really give any geographic location for particular subclades.
Any submissions to this newsletter can be submitted to Elizabeth Kipp (kippeeb@rogers.com).
This Blog will talk about researching my English ancestors from Canada but also the ancestors of our son in law whose families stretch back far into Colonial French Canada. My one name study of Blake and of Pincombe also dominate my blog these days.

Blake Surname Study – Progress
I continue working on the Prerogative Court of
Canterbury Wills (and some from different County Record Offices) but have had a
short hiatus due to the OGS Conference 2017 which was a great success. I will
be returning to blogging wills very shortly. I have had a number of interesting
emails querying various Blake lines which I have not yet attended to but hope
to do that again in the next couple of weeks. I appreciate your emails but they
sometimes take me a while to answer as I know most about my own Blake line in
Andover Hampshire.
2.
Blake DNA Study at FT DNA
The Blake DNA study continues to attract new members
but does need to grow considerably larger before it will benefit the members of
the study. I will try to write up the results of this study in a way that
protects everyone’s anonymity but does make some use of the interesting results
that are arising. (https://www.familytreedna.com/public/blake?iframe=yresults)
I do need to have a family tree to go with new
members and would mention that here. I will not share your trees with others
unless you specifically give me such consent. In the next issue I will have
more to write about the yDNA study although it is still too small to really
draw any strong conclusions except on a very limited basis.
3.
Andover, Hampshire, England Parish
Registers
Andover, Hampshire, England has often been said to be
the “home of the Blakes” when I have been writing to people in Hampshire
through the years. When I decided to transcribe the Parish Registers of Andover
I was surprised to find that yes there are a number of Blake entries but there
are far more Blake entries in Parish Registers in other parts of England. I
will begin publishing the Blake family records in the Andover Parish Registers
in this Newsletter with this issue (baptisms, with marriages and burials to
follow). These records are taken from fiche which have scans of the original
parish registers. The registers for baptism begin in 1589 and have provided me
with a lot of details on the Blake family in Andover in the late 1500s.

The Galway Blake Family yDNA study
I had intended to do a writeup on the Galway Blake
Family yDNA Study but time has once again escaped me. I will attempt to do that
for the October Issue. Gardening will be winding down, the sun sets earlier so
hopefully I will find the time to work on the writeup. Apologies for that delay.
