H11 Newsletter in progress

I did work on the H11 project yesterday and all ungrouped members are now grouped. It is not of any value to do the statistics I used to do in this issue of the newsletter. In each individual member's page is all the information that I used to provide in an anonymous way which is now available to each person except they can see the matches. Thank you to FT DNA for doing such a great job in this upgrade. I can not publish the new mitogroups because that information is personal. So a small writeup on that in the Newsletter. I still have to have a look at the recent messaging online about H11 and see if there is anything other than my newsletters. 

H11 is an old haplogroup subclade which wintered in Ukraina during the last Ice Age. Presumably given the tracking of some of the members of this group it would appear that there were several paths to the west through central Europe and into southern England and through the Scandinavian Peninsula and into Scotland where my ancestor appears on the Blood of the Isles Database created by Bryan Sykes. The H11 also trekked east and south east and south west. The Blood of the Isles Database is a limited look as few markers are mentioned but the ones that are end up, in my case, being significant and it is likely that both of my lines y-DNA and mt-DNA were in the British Isles 8,000 to 12,000 years ago as Western Hunter Gatherers. Both of these signatures go extinct when my generation is gone and when the grandchildren generation is gone (y-DNA in my generation and mt-DNA in the grandchildren generation). I think sometimes it is hard to believe given that I have six siblings but there you go. However there are still, in my estimation, around half a million to a million holders of this mt-DNA and an unknown number for the y-DNA (there were fourteen matches on the Chromo2 test). This being an expensive test probably did not get as many testers as it might have. But I do know that the y-DNA is all over the British Commonwealth but not so sure of the United States as no one has tested there that matches. I do not know of any male Blake of Andover going to the United States. It became a very small family in the mid 1700s and most holders were still in England. Time will tell though and if DNA studies continue to interest people more will be available in the future. 

 Today finish up the H11 Newsletter and work on the Kipp Newsletter. I also hope to get back to the matches and there are 22 to finish off Chromosome 2 and then on to the last one - Chromosome 1 with its 250+ matches. That will take a bit of time. 

My new exercise routine now a few weeks old is going very well and I think it was time for a change to that type of longer exercise. I also ran for thirty minutes and lifted weights for 20 minutes. It gives me a good cardio load for the day and exercise level. At 80 one has to keep up the exercises as you lose the muscle tone very quickly. The balance also has to be part of the whole exercise story and I was amazed at how adding two sets of exercises that my daughter mentioned to my routine kept me from falling down readily whilst skiing. 

Started filling in my income tax with basic details and I do believe I will move to one of the Canadian manufactured income tax form programs. I suppose I knew it was American but I guess I thought maybe it was also Canadian but it is totally American owned. But at $27 for the basic form it isn't a lot but I will move to possibly UFile as it looks interesting, has a lovely Canadian flag in the corner and is downloaded to the computer which I prefer. It is sad though as I really like Turbo Tax. We were all happy I think with the status quo but time changes and life moves on and so must we. I do like what Prime Minister Carney is doing. One mustn't think of the deficit at this point; we need to think of increasing jobs and Canadian content of everything. 

Today the opening of the new Consulate in Nuuk, Greenland and the Governor General is there along with Minister Anand  and we are well represented there by many Canadian Inuit cousins and friends to support this new Consulate and it will bring us even closer as peoples. It isn't far from Baffin Island to Greenland and new trade routes are opening up in the Hudson Bay and we can all work together to make our lives more productive. 

Drinking tea and on to the Solitaire Puzzles. Still enjoying the Sudoku very much and do get a good laugh out of the Superstar label.  I do miss the sixteen games of Spider to achieve the Diamond level in that particular Solitaire game and perhaps I will return once my  eyes adjust to this sparkling as it tends to give me a headache. So move on from that; there are other games and Sudoku is great as a memory and brain game for sure. 

 

 

 

Newsletters published and it is minus 23 degrees celsius

 The newsletters are published for this  month and on the right day. Hopefully a pattern to be completed at the end of every month. Life is returning to normal. Today is Sunday and I shall go to Church and my email tells me that it is being celebrated at St Clement, Sandwich in the Diocese of Canterbury and the service today is for the Feast of Candlemas. The theme "Jesus is the light of the world and the light in the darkness" is an eternal one in the Christian faith. I miss actually being in Church but I am 79.5 now and if life can make it possible for me to just go to Church at home that does work well.

My thought on trade was lets go back to the way it was; no trade between Canada and the United States (if we want to buy something than we just cross over buy it and pay the duty required on the return). With our new border surveillance we should catch anything, even a rabbit trying to cross the border (and especially guns and fentanyl as we do not want either of them loose in our country (the guns need to be registered in our country we are strict about that and the fentanyl destroyed)). This way our youth can re-create the industries of the past that were in Canada before they were bought up and sold so that the competition could move their products in. This time no selling of companies to anyone outside the country. We can sell to each other we are thirteen provinces and territories. That way we will all be happy like we used to be. People can still pass back and forth through the border crossings and we can smile at each other and be the two hundred year plus friends that we have always been. Supporting each other when catastrophe strikes and praying for each other when tragedy occurs. That is what friends do.

Plus Europe is desperate for gas and we could sell them gas and oil. I think that is the way it used to be; people were desperate for particular items and so a country sold it to them. That probably works better.

I bought all the ingredients for my regular chicken stew and it will have onion, potatoes, carrot, turnip, brussell sprouts, frozen broccoli, frozen peas and frozen corn all grown in this country and frozen in this country if need be along with Canadian chicken. That way we do not have to worry about trade; we have it all here.  I will miss the fresh fruit, fresh vegetables (fresh cauliflower in chicken soup is wonderful) of all kinds that came up to us (great while it lasted) but our friendship with the United States will be strong as it has always been these last two hundred plus years.

Another day in the frozen wasteland but I shall be writing and today continues to be the Pincombe-Pinkham family (another shared family with our neighbour to the south as there are many many of each of us in both countries and in our native England (and South Africa and Australia)). This book could be quite intriguing. I may publish it widely because it has less theoretical ideas other than the possibility that the Pincombe family of North Molton is descendant of the Pencombe family of Herefordshire. Life is always exciting. 

The Blake family of Andover book continues along as well and I will return on Monday working on the ancient documents for the Blake family of Calne that I ordered and have received so quickly. The contents of them may be most revealing. 

Teatime. It is Groundhog Day and it is really cloudy so at least six more weeks of winter but in this area there is always six more weeks of winter at least one hopes so. We need the snow cover. Solitaire games to be played. That will be a challenge for me as I renew in the spring with Microsoft. Oh dear how did we ever get so entwined. Perhaps I should give it up until the new administration comes in four years! I can always play it with a deck of cards!

H11 Newsletter in the final stages

It took longer than I thought to review all the data - 499 sets of results is a lot. However I have completed that task and the subclades are all ready to go. Instead of just having unknown for people who do not know their location prior to arrival in Australia, Canada or the United States (principal areas where H11 arrived during the immigration period), I have added in their destination country to the chart. In general most went to the United States because it had open immigration whereas the British Empire tended to have a more closed emigration system. 

I am just going to do a search to see if there is anything new on H11 and then will publish the newsletter. Today I need to complete the Kip-Kipp newsletter but it will only discuss yDNA because my knowledge of the Kipp family is very limited but I did help Edward with the yDNA study. 

Tariff day it appears and the first day of our recovery from our loss of industry here over the last fourty years with many many small industries being either bought out or they closed their doors as they could not compete. It is an opportunity with unemployment at around 6.7% but it is higher in this country because of paid maternity leave with women staying out of the workforce for up to two years and I believe they are included in that total (I can always be corrected). 

Europe needs gas and we have it. We need to get in there and help with that. Yes I worry about the problems with carbon pollution but we have greened everything as much as we can and our contribution is low. Chemically speaking we should be able to do this with the lowest pollution level possible. Alberta can produce it as can the Maritimes.  There is still a lot of winter left in Europe (as there is here; it is minus 18 degrees celsius this morning at 6:15 am).

What we need is to start to produce small machines like washing machines, dish washers, stoves and all that type of appliance once again here domestically. Our dollar is low so if we ever did produce enough we could export them but the domestic market would be large and of course no tariff. Then there is furniture and parts of Ontario were powerhouses for furniture production and we need to get back to that. Young people still living at home can think about the incentive money that will be available in Ontario to do startups. 

Farming too needs to have fresh input from adventurous people who love to work in the outdoors. I can remember my great uncle (Frank Pincombe) who simply loved being on the land and he farmed to his last day. His father (Richard Pincombe) had come to Canada as a young boy with his older siblings and younger sister. This family was on the land their entire lives which included my grandfather (John Routledge Pincombe) and the Pincombe farms were all close by in Middlesex County, Ontario. We do need to do this as quickly as we can get ourselves going whilst the competition is priced out. Then hopefully we can learn to love winter (I do actually; it is this wonderful time of solitaire and working) and not sell our creations and retire to Florida!

Then there is the military and we need to build that up and our equipment. We want to get that done to do our part in NATO but also because our military is our backbone of support when tragedy strikes whether it is the rivers overflowing and swamping the land and trapping the people or ice storms or fire. We need our military and we need it to be up to number. I like the GI bill in the United States; it was a marvelous idea on their part. We need to offer free education to our retired military as many of them are still quite young when they retire and probably could not have afforded advanced education but for their service we should give them free advanced education on retirement. I really that is a must in this modern day and age. I could also be that they want to set up a business if they have been working in construction or creation within the military as not everyone wants to sit at a computer all day long where there is an opportunity for creativity and development in so many different aspects of implements that we use every day. But of course I come from a trades family where construction was very important in the installations that were done by them.

Back to work, must get the newsletter out right away after my search and will drink my tea as I work. H11 newsletter on the website is complete and on the FT DNA website. 

Need to decide on how to do my exercise now that I am adding in the rowing but at 15 minutes rather than 5. I have to adjust my cardio load. This update to FitBit is rather interesting as I appear to quite often exceed my cardio load. Whether that is good or bad is hard to say but I am trying to stay close to the top of the suggested load for the day and not exceed by too much. I am after all 79.5 years of age. 

So the Kipp newsletter is next and I am contemplating it. Then I can return to the Pencombe book and continue my reading and thinking about what I have written thus far. On Monday I return to the Blake but it is also my large cleaning day so not a lot of accomplishment but perhaps good days to read the new documents that are in my box and ready to read. Thank you to those two archives for their speediness. I of course sent them exactly what I wanted and they complied with exactly what I asked for so not involving a lot of time just work to extract and scan it for me likely. Having been at Kew where in some cases you just get a box with the particular number that you are asking for in it but it is along with quite a bit of other information in the same lot number and it is likely that these repositories have the same conditions although gradually so much is getting on line and there is so much discussion with some of the documents that are online contributed by the archivist. Great work for sure.

Assignment completed

 How incredibly sad the plane-helicopter accident was in Washington. It was on the news all day as they initially tried to rescue the people on the plane and helicopter but no one found alive. Prayers for the lost and for their grieving family members continuing. God be with them.

 I now have all of the new H11 results into my database and can write the newsletter today. Twenty five new people brings the group up to nearly 500 (499 members). It is amazing really and it is one of the oldest of the H haplogroups dated around 45,000 years ago for its emergence and principally a central-eastern European haplogroup although it is found present day in Scandinavia, western Europe and the British Isles as well as the emigrant countries - namely America (members of the project are American and Canadian) and Oceania (India, Australia and New Zealand also make up some of the members). The updated version of the mt DNA haplotree (Version 17) shows no changes for this haplogroup. The number of name holders though is likely in the million but in a world of billions that is not so many.

No tariff on oil would be a good idea for sure but I still think we need to build refineries and get our surplus oil to market at full price - huge benefits for Alberta and Canada in that and the Northern Pipeline was discussed in an affirmative way.  We would  have two pipelines to tidewater and our own refineries in abundance once again. As for the auto industry, in the nineties that was pretty much decided on in order for the American companies to be able to hold on to their market here (living in the past is a mistake). In reality these cars passing back and forth across the border is meaningless because they are not finished products and should not even be considered for tariff because no one actually knows where they will end up being sold - for instance my car is made in Canada (Dodge Caravan) but likely it spent time in the United States as well being built. Trying to destroy that cross border activity will only damage the industry here in Canada in terms of sales for those companies - do they want to lose a 41 million customer base. We bought a Toyota (made in Canada) during the last debacle over the car industry. Interesting that that period of tariff being commented on at the  moment in discussions ended with the Great Depression. And who emerged from the Great Depression - some very wealthy people and most of the others poor struggling to get ahead (no one wants to repeat the Great Depression)!

I spent an extra half hour in the grocery store yesterday reading all the labels so that I am ready if tariffs go on (regretfully I will give up all American products - I do love fresh fruit and vegetables and apparently my cookies are made there (bought some lovely cookies made in Quebec yesterday just in case)). Love my American neighbours (and many of them are my cousins) but upsetting the apple cart is not a good way to do business and will wreck havoc in the business world in both countries; it isn't fair to the American consumer either as their prices will go up (unless of course all the wealthy people plan on sharing their money with all Americans). 

I said at the beginning of the discussion on the 51st State that being one large continental area is a good thought in terms of preservation of the northern part of this hemisphere. A closer economic union would give us that. Merging our federal police forces so that there is a combined group to protect this part of the continent also a good idea. But we would be the equivalent of 13 new states and that would certainly have an enormous effect on Congress if there ever was a union; that is the only way that we would combine - as 13 new states. A territory without representation as suggested by at least one of the Republican Senators doesn't work and a single state does not give us sufficient representation in the Senate. We are after all a huge land mass full of all sorts of wealthy products and potential products that would be an enormous asset providing the First Nations were on board with that.  But I think the present status quo worked very well on the 11th of September 2001 and will always work well in the future for our caretaking of this continent. One can depend on Canada to be the best neighbour as we have always been during the last two hundred plus years now. Our friendship goes back a long way.

More hostages released in Gaza yesterday including the young woman who was not released as promised the last time. It really is time for all the hostages to be released now and immediately as demanded by the ICC over a year ago now. Hamas insults the world along with Hezbollah and the Houthis and there really isn't any place for them in the Middle East. They have been tethered and it is pretty much in God's hands what will happen to them; they do not deserve any better treatment than what was meted out to the Israeli (and other) hostages this past year and a half. Perhaps that is the answer to shove them all into underground prisons until they grow up and stop their bully tactics.

A busy day ahead working on the two newsletters. I definitely do not want to receive requests for money from my party (Conservative and I have been getting them much too regularly) when there isn't any sort of a plan to handle the upcoming year here in Canada in that request. Once bitten; twice shy! We do not  need a federal election until we see what happens with the Liberal Party (and I hate the way they throw money around without careful accounting) in March. I also disagreed with prorogation of parliament but the precedent was set by - guess who, the Conservative Party. So let us get to work, check where it is made and on with the show!

I still have to say that the "Gulf of America" is not a bad name considering it is surrounded by South America, Central America and North America (Mexico is part of North America). This is the American continent so a Gulf of America sounds great actually. No problem with that. Too bad no one has taken a poll calling people in all of these countries in the Western Hemisphere. Then there is the name Turtle Island which I admit is growing on me. I wonder what part of the Continent it refers to? Perhaps I will learn that. It refers to the continent of North America apparently so that is very interesting. It comes down as an ancient story in the culture of the First Nations. I do find all of this very intriguing.

 I was sorry to see Jamie Battiste drop out of the leadership race but he is young and there is plenty of time to do that in the future. He is a member of the First Nations.

I also received my two documents already which is very much appreciated. I shall set myself to the task of transcribing them out of the Latin which will take time but for the moment H11 calls and then the Kip-Kipp newsletters awaits me. My the days are so busy.

Cleaning accomplished and this must be a newsletters day

I have slotted in today as a newsletter day and will try to keep to that. I do like to have a regular schedule for the newsletters and this time there are two due - H11 and Kip-Kipp. The H11 I only produce once a year at the moment although that could change this year we will see. The Kip-Kipp is published four times a year but is a new addition since my husband passed away and I decided I should publish what I find in his records that he hasn't published or hasn't published in a way that is more permanent. 

Yesterday I worked on my ancestry matches - I do try to keep them up to date but another three months has passed since my last update into my Ancestry atDNA database. I am looking at it these days and with all the new matches in the last couple of years it had grown enormously. I am contemplating cutting out the good matches (i.e. over 25 cM - remembering that they do use TIMBER on their matches) that occur across all four of us and might be handy. On the other hand; sometimes I am the only one matching (I am the outlier in the family) and their matches do exist but are small - so I need to think about that aspect as well since these matches have been interesting. But for this set I will continue down to 21 cM for each match in terms of selecting matches for the database. There are 26 new matches with seven being over 25 cM and I am just now seeing if there is more than one chromosome length in the match. There are often trees and I can see where we are related giving further proof of the strength of my tree without actually knowing where we are related. Because I have so many other matches in databases where the match is known I can visualize where we are likely matching but in essence it doesn't matter. Surprising really and Ancestry provides such an easy way to create your tree and correspond that it is useful without the actual data. That isn't to say though that having the data is actually something I would pay an enhanced membership to have for sure. 

I had one thought whilst I was cleaning away and that was we do appreciate having the United States as our first trading partner for everything. But selling more of our oil outside of that sphere would be an enormous benefit to us especially at full price since we give the United States a discount (and other products too); we could even go back to refining oil as we did before the refineries were bought out by Americans as I recall back years ago (that would be a better use of federal monies - helping to support such a venture). I continue to dislike the way that the Liberals tend to just throw money at it and hope that it sticks. It did not work well during the pandemic and cooler heads must prevail and ensure that the money is spent in a way that benefits the economy because that is what will suffer. Canadians are resilient and can make do with what we have stored to eat this winter and local produce. The symbiotic relationship between the United States and Canada has been strong through many years now and we both have prospered. What is the aim really to upset the apple cart? Our dollar trading low means that our exports are more affordable around the world and we will increase our trade in that way. But trading as we have been  in a north - south pattern has benefited so many of the states as well as us (but has created provincial barriers which restrict our trading between the provinces/territories). We have many businesses that are Jewish that tariffs will also hurt; our Jewish community is large especially in Quebec and Ontario which would be amongst the hardest hit by tariff. Do the ultra wealthy make money on this weakness that is created; is that the reason? Sad really as they make their money on the backs of the citizens of the countries wherein they operate whether they run a company or just sit on the stock market (and they are the biggest users of the facilities of any country because they can afford it (private airplanes amongst other things like the protection offered by the federal government)). They should have more respect for the people of the country where they are making their money. It is the regular person who will be most damaged by tariff because the profits of that venture will go into the treasury and support tax cuts which are huge for the ultra rich and minimal for the lower income earners. Just my thought on a busy day. Money is what Jesus said - evil in the wrong hands and should be used to help all people in a country in a reasonable way and not taken away by restrictive measures. Because companies always seek profit they do not want to lose the customer base that they have currently and going international always increases the customer base (unless harm is done to the base by tariff). But has money become an industry in itself with crypto - interesting.

So tea is finished, solitaire puzzles to play and then breakfast.

 

Cleaning day and two newsletters to plan

This is basement cleaning day and I have two newsletters to plan for the 1st of February. Is it even possible that the 1st of February is arriving. One month into 2025 already.

The first is for H11 Newsletter and we have a new Version of the mtDNA tree - Version 17 to review. However, there are virtually no changes in H11. It is an ancient mtDNA grouping stretching back to the Ukraina Ice Refuge during the Last Glacial Maximum when Homo sapiens retreated from the advancing ice sheets to relative safety in a number of Ice Refuges. My line of H11a2a2 appears to have advanced early on out of the Ice Refuge towards Doggerland and into what is now the Argyllshire/Ayrshire area of Scotland. Our closest relatives (with the 16265G mutation) are the larger part of this mtDNA haplogroup subclade. Primarily this particular subclade is located in the British Isles with the larger group having crossed through Europe with groups staying in various locations all over Europe actually and then some groups moving on to England, Scotland and Ireland as both sets of data can be found in the Blood of the Isles Database. This newsletter will be the yearly roundup of numbers in particular subclades that I have prepared from the accumulated members of the group. But in reality this grouping represents only about 10% of FT DNAs database of H11. Is it a good cross section? I have no idea actually but they will be coming out with a similar charting of all their members I believe. 

The second is for the Kip-Kipp Newsletter and this time I really must look at the data and see what I can come up with in regards to the deep ancestry of this line. The distinct signal of this family that settled in New Amsterdam in the late 1630s is remarkable in that there are few close matches to them - they generally stand out very well in the results as being descendant of this Kip family of New Amsterdam headed up by Hendrick Hendricksen Kip whose demographic information from Amsterdam appears to be quite complete pointing out his likely birth area in The Netherlands. At the time he was born, it is likely that the area was part of this country at that time as it is to this present day. But it is a sort of bulge in the map into Germany and I have written about that history in an earlier newsletter. All newsletters are available on the website of this project. 

Other than that I am working away on various projects as time passes quickly and I would like to keep to my schedule. There is still the thesis being scanned. My grandparents and great grandparents DNA being phased on the basis of five siblings/grandchildren/great grandchildren results in DNA over several testing companies with at least four at each of them. The number of matches is large and I am slowly getting them entered into my database. One new Buller result with a known third cousin has proven to be very interesting and helpful as I was missing information on that line to a certain extent. In reality between the five of us we all received some DNA on every chromosome from each of the four grandparents - there are no gaps which is amazing really. That has allowed me to go back to the great grandparents although that is pretty experimental at this time. But I do have quite a few third cousins which I find very helpful. In that I do not have any first cousins and very few second cousins (so many have tested), having the third cousins has worked extremely well for me especially as the five of us have inherited differently in many cases and the difference between the two that match the least - my second oldest brother and myself being the outliers is quite large actually for a full sibling. It is those differences that make it easier to do the phasing. 

I must get back to the building powerpoint presentation for Orleans United Church as I had moved away from working on that - time escaped me. But their 50th anniversary does not occur until 2028 I think - would have to look that up but Edward would have liked me to do it and offer it to them as he loved being part of that building process. They actually went in and did some of the work building including my older daughter. She was up on the roof helping to shingle when she was just thirteen years of age. She used to manage the sound room at the 11 o'clock service in her later teens until life at university became too busy. But I was a little shocked to see my baby up on the roof for sure but I never said anything as she wanted to do that. 

Well the morning is moving quickly and so must I. Yoga and then breakfast, tea finished.

May Day and my grandparents

May Day I always especially remember my grandparents. Celebrated in the British Isles and Europe as a major holiday, May Day was also a memory my father would share from his memory of life in Eastleigh, Hampshire where he grew up (he was nine years of age when he came to Canada with his mother, his father had come six months earlier to set up house for them). He would tell us about dancing around the may-pole. It was this lovely day that everyone shared in. It is like a breath of fresh air here as it does tend to mark the end of winter and usher in those warm spring days (albeit we could still have snow!). 

I did manage to get the Kipp Family Newsletter published; that was interesting that I thought it was time for the Pincombe-Pinkham Newsletter (1st of June is the next). But when I brought up the template I realized it was actually not due for another month and so worked on the Kipp Newsletter. It was just two pages as I will only discuss the yDNA results now for the Kip family of New Amsterdam/New York from which my husband descended. I decided not to put out an issue of the H11 Newsletter; I will do two issues this year - one completed already the 1st of February and the next will be the 1st of August. 

I re-watched the fifth introductory you tube video on the Untold Story of the Kingdom of Judah. It is a very heavy educational lecture which looks at the ancient Nation of Israel from the Biblical information, the archaeological information and the written historical information. I will watch it a third time just to make sure I did not miss anything before I move forward to the sixth lesson of the introduction. The Old Testament part of the Bible is really the story of the family that walked and talked with God.  It is a family story and like all family stories the flow is not always uniform and there are different writers but overall the picture is the story that was handed down from generation to generation and is a gift of the Hebrew people to the world. There are none to few other written records that could provide us with so much detail on the very ancient world that our ancestors lived in. But it remains a family story in those early chapters of the Bible. This series is exceptional in its depth and breadth of discussion and I really appreciate that the original lecture series (produced by Dr Lipschits) has been translated from the Hebrew to English by Professor Oded Lipschits of Tel Aviv University in Israel. It will take me quite a while to watch the entire set of lectures but then it does generally take an entire semester or perhaps two to work through all of these lectures. 

Today is a Pencombe-Pinkham research day and I continue extracting information from Find My Past. It will take me several months I expect and I am going slowly as I work my way through each record placing it where I can readily relocate it for linking purposes. I always contemplate whether I should do this on paper but I do have the charts from the earlier study to look at as I am working away. Although I do not agree always with these charts (my own line is incorrect) they are a good start discussing the family. That is more than there was before the two researchers started for sure and each researcher that follows will increase the depth and breadth of the study. Certainly I am sure that others will follow my work, dissect it and make changes/corrections. I thank them for it as that is the purpose of research to refine, improve and correct. 

It is time to think about tea and latin.

Today, the Kipp Newsletter

 Yesterday was totally a cleaning day and I really did not do very much else. I always find two days off from so much reading is good for my eyes. I did watch Question Period and that was really rather strange - I felt like I was watching the European Parliament where tempers do flare at times. It just seemed so unlike the usual in Parliament. I do like pleasant discourse in Parliament for sure but election time is coming and the clock is ticking for sure. Am I influenced by what happens in front of the camera - not overly. I can be irritated but Pierre Poilivere is young and I will give him a little more of a pass than I might otherwise. He can feel power and it is interesting watching that effect on him. I do not like it that he associated with "white" nationalists in a way that looked a bit too chummy perhaps. I would like a clearer statement from him on their (white nationalists) radical views. Surely the population of "white" nationalists is not sufficient to affect the election. I was very much in favour of them being turfed out of Ottawa in what I considered a very considerate and professional process. 

But then I am not in favour of sit-ins of any kind that disrupt. Write it down; publish it but do not congregate in large numbers and insult or threaten those around you. If you have a point to make then make it; I will listen but at 78.5 years I have lived a lot of history now and will weigh everything based on that history not on the moment. Mistakes get made and the best way to solve them is to back off; accept the wrongs that have been committed and then we can move ahead with a discussion on how to solve problems - they are not solved by inconveniencing the world around you. The youth needs to learn that. Especially now when they are totally outnumbered by these adults which is the world which they will enter - we have lived a long history you should listen to us and not people who use the moment to gain influence. The lies that are being circulated are unacceptable; they do not hold up in the light of history. What does hold up is this enormous loss of life in Gaza which was preventable - Hamas remains totally at fault. That the Palestinians even around the world appeared to be aware of this event (the brutal barbaric attack on Israel 7th October last) prior to it happening is unacceptable and the loss of all those children is a pain that the world bears but we do know where to lay all of that responsibility and it is with Hamas and those who support them. The hostages must be released immediately and unconditionally as declared by the International Court of Justice more than three months ago. There is huge sympathy for the people of Gaza but we will not abandon the Jewish peoples both worldwide and within our own country. Hamas continues to threaten the Jewish people constantly (they have not taken back their desire to commit genocide against the Jewish people); the Jewish people have a right to life and property too; they are an ancient people on their own lands. Release all  the hostages Hamas, now!

Actually today is the Kipp Newsletter; I was a month ahead of myself - Pincombe-Pinkham Newsletter is the first of June. So much going on around that I did make that mistake; one must concentrate on what the order is. Not actually sure what I will put into the Kipp Newsletter at this moment in time. It will be just two pages likely but I will see if there is anything new in the y-DNA on the FT DNA site. I have moved forward quite quickly as I have ascertained that my husband published everything  he planned to publish. It has taken me a while to check that. I do want to publish his PhD Thesis in Chemistry and will do that so it is available if anyone wants a copy. I also plan to publish his collection of wild flowers which is extensive as we traveled about in our youth before children. It was something that interested both of us. But I will maintain the yDNA study of the Kip family of New York/Amsterdam into the future now that I have done the Y-700 test on his yDNA. There is a lot to learn these days as more and more information comes forward taking us back in time to look at the evolution of the Kip family from which he descends. 

It is also the publication date for the H11 Newsletter and I will contemplate whether or not I will publish a second issue, third issue and fourth issue for this year's volume. The day is ahead of me whilst I think about that. I will do a second issue in three months time. There are a couple of new members on the site but I do not do that collection until the 1st of February. There isn't any new news on H11 (other than the fact that the war against Ukraine which Russia started and continues probably kills quite a few H11 people). It is a haplogroup found in both countries.

Lots of rain and I think the grass is growing I must go out and have a look. Latin finished, tea drank and breakfast even completed. The day begins in God's world; we should rejoice and be glad in it. Thank you God for the gift of life itself.

H11 Newsletter published and Kip-Kipp Newsletter in process

 The H11 Newsletter is published and I did find a couple of interesting articles to go along with the organization of the data. It is interesting putting the group together in a rigorous fashion but as I mention this is also done by FT DNA in their haplogroup section of the mtDNA group by mutation. Although looking at my own page I note this is not quite as deep as I thought it was. Interesting to see the number of people in H11a2a1 who have tested at FT DNA and it totals 157 compared to 27 in the group so about 17%. In both cases the location of the furtherest back ancestor will be the same (unless hidden) because the same data pool is used. I will continue to produce the Newsletter as it does give access to the Statistics and I do a slightly different style of laying out the results. 

The Kip-Kipp Newsletter will talk about the yDNA results only and the Statistics for the group descended from Hendrick Hendricksen Kip of New Amsterdam/New York only. I would include material if anyone wants to send it to me but for the moment I will discuss the Y-700 test using information that was shared by another researcher as well as my own thoughts. 

Hopefully May 1st I will be on time with both.

Perhaps back to my books today. Since I accomplished nil on either this week I will probably just do a rerun in thinking on both of them to remind myself of where I am at. 

Teatime.  Groundhog Day in Canada and it is cloudy. The groundhogs will  not see their shadows in this area and we usually do have more than six weeks of winter to come anyway!

Accomplishment - nil

Although I cleaned yesterday my accomplishment yesterday was absolutely nil otherwise. But perhaps that is good; great rest for the eyes. Today I must finish the cleaning - basement to do. 

Minus 6 degrees celsius out there but no snow promised particularly. Since this is our wet season when the ground receives lots of moisture that is not a good sign. Climate Change and its effects on Canada are quite disastrous really as with all polar regions. But good news the solar panels have reactivated the lander that Japan sent to the moon. Life continues if people will let it. People are so greedy.

I do still really like the idea of bringing in thousands of Palestinian children to Canada (3 to 8 and possibly to 10 years of age (depends on the child because we do not want them spouting lies such as we heard here on the streets of Canada following the despicable acts of Hamas and their sycophants on the 7th October last) as they will require minimal processing and they deserve the break from war). Surely the likely 10,000 households of Palestinians can take in a lot of children and perhaps other people would as well. Not something I would take on as it is much nicer for them to have a "foster father and mother". Giving them a chance to run and play; to learn and be free of bombing would be great. They did nothing to cause the life in which they are living (too young to effectively dig tunnels one would assume although these Satanic Hamas people might try to have them do that) and can only benefit from the opportunity. They can still be in touch with parents on a daily basis with the wonder of internet yet they will have a happier life. That would be a better way to spend our support money for Gaza; then we know it is not building tunnels/equipping war machines and threatening Israel. Or we can just give it to the Rohingya peoples who are in a much more desperate plight with very few people aiding them. 

According to the Wikipedia page on UNRWA 5.9 million people are registered with UNRWA. Who are all these people?  As of 2023 2,098,389 people live in the Gaza Strip. Why are they not working to support themselves; why do they need this support? For one thing they reduce the support per person in Gaza by 50% if they are actually all receiving support. No Islamophobia here; I just think people should work. I have worked since I was 12 (and before that I helped to look after my younger siblings and of course it was just in the summers when I was a child) and I really do not see why the fields of Gaza are not full of food being grown - wonderful climate there. It is the same soil as Israel has I would think and they grow an enormous amount of food. Tilling the soil is the least that people can do for themselves and for a young person is an easy task instead of digging tunnels or whatever else they are doing - bomb making, no ideas on that.. Tunnels everywhere but no food being grown - very strange and something has to change there obviously. Hate against peoples is a sin; laziness is a sin. God does not forgive sin which isn't overcome and removed.

Free the hostages and get out of Gaza Hamas. Hamas is evil; they are Satanic.

Other than that I am thinking about the Blake and Pencombe books. They slowly grow in my mind as I continue to search for documents to help me to prove a point or find a point to prove really. There has been little done on these families between 1200 and 1500. There is material and I just need to put it together in a rigorous fashion. Then I can begin the generation chapters. 

Are we on the cusp of war; the waiting time as my mother called it. You could feel the tension rising and then sinking down a little once more but gradually the tempo built and then it happened. That was what she said. War is horrible; so many young people die - look at Russia's illegal war against Ukraine. Now the talk is trying to deny Ukraine its right to be a country by those who support Russia or just want to steal part of Ukraine! Remember Poland and how it got divided up near the beginning of World War II; people are so greedy.  Glory to Ukraine and Israel; prayers for Ukraine and Israel. Prayers for the world which is also feeling old with Climate Change.

The day has brought out a few thoughts

Cleaning all accomplished and the research week begins. Knowing one's history as far back as possible is rather interesting. Although my interest in my youth was purely science from a knowledge of Chemistry and Physics to knowledge about the universe that surrounds us I have moved from that in my old age to an interest in these many surnames in modern times that have created me plus the eons before that when tribal lines were my ancestry leading back to the ancient times. My grandfather had this strong belief that his people had always lived in the Andover area of Hampshire, England. Thus far I have not found anything that would say otherwise. Blake being a rather old surname and it does appear in the records of Andover area back into the 1300s but it will not be me that really does that research because one needs to do that in the Record Offices back in the British Isles. That Blake is a surname with a number of founding lines is rather interesting and the surname projects leads one down many paths.

The Yazidi people are much in my thoughts these days. I had always thought of them as an early Christian denomination and certainly ISIS pretty much destroyed the entire population in Iraq as Infidels. It is something to keep in mind as these Satanic people (Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihadists ISIS and others like them) destroy any peoples who do not fit into their decision on who can live in this world. These Satanic people must be put somewhere so that the world is protected from them and we can have peace. The really deep thought this day is Iran the only one funding them? It is a mystery we must resolve for our own existence. But minds much greater than mine are on that for sure and the thought passes from my brain. And it must not be us funding our own demise thinking we are helping in this case the Palestinian people. There must never again be any way for satanists like Hamas to terrorize the Israeli people; murder Israeli babies in their cribs and kill/rape/torture Israeli men, women and children in their homes/schools/places of work.

Prayers for Israel and all the Jewish people of the world. Prayers for Ukraine and perhaps in the depths of all this Russia and Ukraine will find a common meeting ground where both are content. Prayers for the Palestinian people and free them from the clutches of the Hamas terrorists who constantly use them as human shields. When the life of a Hamas terrorist is in danger then they gather around them as many Palestinians as possible in order to create a news story that blames Israel. But we are cognizant of your tricks Hamas. What you have done to the Palestinians is criminal using them as human shields. God says "let my people go."

Working on the Kipp Newsletter today and the H11 Newsletter (just one issue for this year) has now been published. My reasons for not publishing the newsletter were perhaps not entirely consistent with how I have dealt with all of my newsletters and so I will continue to publish just the one issue a year at the moment (1st of February) that looks at the data in depth and countries of origin. H11 emerged from the Ice Refuge at Ukraina (an ancient name for an ancient place) and slowly but surely took back the land around them and moved further and further afield until perhaps as much as twelve thousand years ago they returned or came (who knows) to the Highlands of Scotland where my ancestral mitochondrial line probably lived according to the work of Bryan Sykes in his writings on the early British Isles DNA - "The Blood of the Isles Database".  What would drive these people so far; certainly following the herds that they lived on would be part of it but was there also that desire to see once again the enormous ocean the Atlantic that lines the coast of Europe/Africa, no  ideas on that. But I can see the attractiveness of the human spirit that wants to know in all of that. Men and women working together moved west from Ukraina and moved east as well and once again an ocean was that the attraction that drew them to the far east where the eastern continent of Europe/Asia faces the Pacific Ocean.

No snow today on the ground but soon it will be covered and once again my country moves into their long cold winter. The day beckons.

Bible Reading - seven years of plenty followed by seven years of famine; Genesis 41

 I always found the story of Joseph interpreting the dreams of the King of Egypt very interesting. Genesis as the first book of the Bible takes us  a long way back in history and forward. Those early times of the history of man when he walked and talked with God are an important memory. I think we should always learn from the memories passed on to us. Why was this particular story important in our memory bank. I think because the availability of food is the most important thing in our lives; we must eat to live. Any massive waste of food is unacceptable in our modern lives. There are too many of us for any country to be permitted to destroy thousands of pounds of food because the Nazi leaders of that country are unable to smash into another country murdering and assaulting their people. It is the two year old in every human being wanting what is not theirs and striking back when they do not succeed. We must always defend ourselves from such butchery and treachery. I think the Bible Story reminds us that the most human need is food. 

Yesterday was a milestone as Edward's Schultz cousins came and picked up eight boxes of material both for themselves and for Edward's niece which was much appreciated. Two of the boxes are fired plates of birds that Edward enjoyed very much and I suggested that at the next Schultz picnic they could be shared amongst his cousins in his memory and it was rewarding to me that this might be able to happen. Edward would have liked that I am sure. Also the two Kipp family Bibles and one Schultz Family Bible (in German) are now in their hands and I will leave the distribution up to them. I do not want such original items to be lost on my watch. Three old teapots that belonged to Edward's mother's mother and her mother and mother in law will go to his niece as again I do not like to see them lost in the shuffle. A banker box of family pictures also for Edward's nieces and there will be more for them to have of their childhood and that of their father (Edward's brother). Then two boxes of Edward's research on the local Ontario Kipp family all of which is scanned but I still have a lot of pictures just not enough time to separate them into family groupings yet. A lot of them are also Kipp but can easily travel through the mail in the prepaid boxes (a great addition to Canada Post for sure). Eight boxes gone; it is such a relief for me. Just one small box for the Amateur Radio Club - more manuals for all that equipment and some other items and a box for the United Empire Loyalist and our summer of sorting and moving forward will end. Next summer already planned and the ground work will happen through this winter. The house feels lighter once again but still so much stuff that needs to find a home where it will fit a purpose. The one item still to be completed is items for the Salvation Army to resell and we will get that together this next week. I think there will be several bags once again. 

Today is cleaning day and a little reorganizing as the number of boxes continues to shrink. We are dealing with about eleven boxes now but other than the research boxes for the Kipp family of Chilliwack BC (early settlers in that area) and the NB Loyalist families - Allen, Parlee and Folkins which I hope to place in those province's archives the research boxes are nearly all sorted and have a new home. The Kip-Kipp Newsletter will be a two pager in the future discussing the yDNA results from the Y-700 test on Edward's sample, the autosomal results but not likely the mitochondrial results because women's surnames were not fixed until lately. 

Must get my tea and do my solitaire games. The day is early but there is as always a lot to do. Perhaps I will get a little transcription of the Siderfin document done in my break times.

Transcribed and updated

This morning is grey and rainy and we have had another good rain overnight. The wind is blowing gently in the trees and the shorter day is making itself felt now. We are approaching August and the end of the summer and gardening mostly thank goodness. Gardening is not really my thing although the produce is very nice for sure. My daughter has found the gardening perhaps too busy this summer working on her research. 

I transcribed the five pages yesterday received from the Somerset Archives and it flowed pretty much as I had developed my theory of just who Robert Siderfin leaving his will in 1688 was. That part has now been revised in the book and today I received a verification of the page that I requested from the National Archives. The answer is just one page and may or may not have many details but mostly it will let me see that the Robert Siderfin alive in 1653 with wife Ursula was the Robert Siderfin born in 1587 and not his son born in 1616. I had thought that Robert died in 1636 but it does appear that it was his eldest son who has died and John Siderfin is still living. Why I do not see this John Siderfin in the records is somewhat peculiar but I will look again just to see if I have missed anything. But in general this John lived at Selworthy, likely married Thomasine unknown and was the father of Robert Siderfin baptized in 1658 at Selworthy and the only Siderfin male in the Robert-Line coming down from Robert 4 (Robert 3, William 2, John 1). He may possibly be the only descendant of that line with both his older sister Wilmot and his older brother Robert not leaving any descendants as far as I can tell at this point in time. 

Today I continue the Seventh Generation as there is a little rewriting to do there and once I have the new document I can close the chapter and on to Generation Eight although it is already begun and if I have time may work on it as well today.

I must remember to post the Kip-Kipp Newsletter on the 1st of August. This will likely be the last longish one as I have completed the children of the emigrant Hendrick Hendricksen  known as Hendrick Hendricksen Kip in New Amsterdam. 

The wind is still in the trees moving softly outside of my window. God is in the Heavens ever watching and ever waiting for mankind to do the right thing. Find peace; follow the new commandments - Love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and love our neighbour as ourself. That is the path to peace and Russia has broken that path with their illegal invasion of Ukraine. The school yard bully and Nazi Putin and his enablers are spoiling the world for everyone actually; one can no longer close the drawbridge and ignore the world. Their greed knows no bounds as they destroy the peace brought to us by the United Nations. Greed does lurk everywhere though and we must find a way to put greed into the past and make this a better world for the grandchildren and great grandchildren to be. They deserve a better world than we are handing them.

Tea is ready and solitaire games to be played. On to the day.  

Interesting article on Ancient courtship: DNA reveals how Stone Age women left home for love. by Joseph Brean. He refers to a recent paper published in Nature: "Extensive pedigrees reveal the social organization of a Neolithic community." These graves will yield much material I rather think. It is one of the things I really like about Ancestry DNA. Although no actual data is available it is the Shared Matches that lead on backwards in time to the Common ancestors and surprisingly in the Siderfin family I have many many matches all around the globe. I think there are some lengths of chromosome that simply survive generation after generation giving unexpected larger matches than anticipated. Although this is in recent time one wonders if these ancient graves will eventually yield up lengths of chromosome that exist and remain intact through the centuries. Time will tell and it is good to see more and more articles on DNA and ancient graves. But the sheer size of the database at Ancestry does let one investigate into those matches and have a good look at how this DNA has moved through the family and around the world. Having the DNA of four of my six siblings on Ancestry has been an eye opener.
