The parents of Jérome Fournier being thus identified as Emerie Fournier dit Larose and Marguerite Quenet who were themselves married 14 Feb 1757 at Québec. The marriage lines identify Emerie Amien dit LaRose as a soldier in the Guienne Regiment and a son of Jean Baptiste Amien and Pauline Fournier who live in France. Hence Emerie Fournier dit Larose is the emigrant ancestor and Generation 1. Interesting that he has chosen to carry the name of his mother rather than his father since the marriage registration does list him as Emers Amien dit LaRose.
Jérome Fournier dit Larose married to Magdeleine Godin is Generation 2.
Jean Baptiste Fournier dit Larose married to Elizabeth Thibaut dite Labbé is Generation 3.
Emilie Fournier dite Larose married to Thomas Welland/Whélan is Generation 4.
The next research day I will ensure that I have collected all the documents plus see what I can learn about the Guienne Regiment.

Whélan Family
On the 1871 census Thomas Whélan and his wife listed as Emilie Whélan are living at Quebec city and he is a carpenter (they have seven children listed (their daughter Emélie married Charles Alexandre Bédard in 1863) and Thomas lists his Origin as French.

I do not know if this is the father of Thomas Welland married to Elisabeth Pépin dit Lachance, I have not yet found this marriage. In contact with another researcher and he hasn't been able to locate the marriage or discover anything further on Thomas Welland/Whélan.
Noting that Thomas Whélan married to Emilie Fournier dit Larose saw his origin as French, I think that I should perhaps look further back in the registers and not assume that Thomas Welland is necessarily from Ireland in the late 1700s. I did indeed find that one of the witnesses at the burial of Patrice Whelan in 1802 was Pierre Bédard. I also found there were two Bédard/Whélan marriages in the late 1700s. More investigation needed into this and see what I can find on the Whélan family in the 1700s. Next research for the Whelan will involve my having a look at the records in the 1700s for this family.

The parents of Pierre Patri thus being identified as Pierre Patri and Marie Magdalen Deniau who were themselves married 29 Jan 1748 at St Michel. One of the very few errors that I have found in Tanguay concerns the father of Pierre Patry married to Marie Girard as he has directed one back to André III. The parents of this Pierre Patry are identified as René Patry and Marie Dupuis who were themselves married 27 Feb 1713 at Notre Dame de l'Assomption de Berthier, Bellechasse. The parents of René were André Patry and Henriette Cartois who were themselves married 23 Jul 1675 at Notre Dame Cathedral in Québec. André was born in France and so is the emigrant ancestor and would then be Generation 1.
René Patry married to Marie Dupuis is Generation 2. The present family is also descended from a second son of André and Henriette - André Patrie married to Catherine Pruneau 18 Nov 1711 at Berthier and they are also Generation 2
Pierre Patry (son of René) married to Marie Madeleine Daniau is Generation 3. Clement Patrie (son of André) married to Dorothee Marie Brochu 15 Jun 1744 at St Vallier, Bellechase is Generation 3. Their daughter Marie Patrie married François Plante 29 Aug 1774 St Michel de la Durantye and is Generation 4.
Pierre Patry (son of Pierre) married to Marie Girard is Generation 4. Clement Patry (son of Clement) married to Thérèse Queret 15 Jan 1770 at St Michel, Bellechasse is Generation 4. Their daughter Marie married to Etienne Fournier 12 Jul 1808 at St Charles, Bellechasse is Generation 5.

Bédard and Whélan families
Sorting the Bédard family into generational folders should enable me to now pull the other pertinent registrations from Ancestry or FamilySearch. I have accumulated a lot of the records but probably have as much again to download and save to files. The Bédard family lines include both sons of the emigrant Isaac Bédard and Marie Girard. Isaac and Marie were married 20 Mar 1644 in Chapelle Sainte-Marguerite, LaRochelle, Charente-Maritime, France. I do not have a baptism for Isaac (circa 1616 at St Sulpice de Paris, France) or Marie Girard said to have been baptized 16 Feb 1623 at Chapelle Sainte Marguerite, LaRochelle and the daughter of Simon Girard and Françoise Giraudet. This family is recorded as Generation I although they did emigrate to New France it is their son Isaac that I have placed in Generation 1although Isaac and Marie do not quite fit the criteria (were not married in New France), but they arrived in 1660 (father and son) where Jacques and Isaac were master carpenters with their wives and children arriving by 1663. Generation 2 of this family was also born in France Jacques was baptized 18 Dec 1644 at Chapelle Sainte Marguerite, LaRochelle and Louis 25 Feb 1655 as well. I would like to acquire the records for LaRochelle (these records I have from King's Daughters and Founding Mothers: The Filles du Roi 1663-1673 and written by Peter J Gagné) and will work away at that but moving forward Jacques married Elizabeth (Isabelle) Doucinet 4 Oct 1666 in Notre-Dame, Ville du Québec and Louis married Marie Madeleine Huppé. Elizabeth Doucinet was a Fille du Roi. I need to learn more about Marie Madeleine Huppé. I have not yet found the marriage registration for this couple. These two sons are both in Generation 2. Generation 3 has two sets of Bédard records for the two sons Charles François (son of Jacques) and Bernard (son of Louis). Generation 4 has the daughter of Bernard - Madeleine Marie who married Jean Pierre Villeneuve 23 Nov 1744 at Charlesbourg and this line then moves to the Villeneuve folder but Charles Joseph (son of Charles François) continues the Bédard line down. I shall have to see how well this works out but it appears to be a good way to look at the ancestral lines. The Legacy file will maintain the links between the families when I produce an ahnantafel chart showing the generations back for each level. The next time that I work on the Bédard family I shall start with Generation 12 and insert the relevant documentation which is the marriage of our son in law and daughter. Then I can ensure that the line back is correct although it also matches the published information on this family. It is more a matter of collecting the relevant documents - this family is readily traced back to the founding Bédard family.
I also sorted out the folders for the Whélan family and this is one of my brick walls. I know that Charles Alexandre Bédard married Marie Emélie Whélan 29 Jul 1863 at Eglise St Jean Baptiste, Québec. Her parents were listed as Jean Thomas Whelan and Emilie Fournier dite Larose. Both Charles, his father Pierre and Jean Thomas were all carpenters (all three men signed the marriage register). The marriage of Jean Thomas Whelan and Emilie Fournier dite Larose took place 13 Jan 1835 at Notre-Dame, Québec with the priest recording the names as Thomas Welland and Emilie Fournier dite Larose. Thomas Welland (painter) was the son of Thomas Welland and Elizabeth Pépin dite Lachance and Emilie Fournier dite Larose daughter of Jean Baptiste Fournier dit Larose and Elizabeth Labbé. Linking these families apears to be quite straightforward. On the 1871 census Thomas Whélan and Emilie Whélan are still at Quebec city and he is a carpenter (they have seven children listed (Emélie married in 1863) and lists his Origin as Français. My next research day I will concentrate on Thomas and see what I can discover about him. Tanguay lists only one entry for an alternative spelling of this name - Edouard Wehenlan and very scant information which appears to be a second wife Suzanne Power born at Ballobrican, Ireland. World Connect offers four trees for this family none of which provide any further information. The website Généalogie du Québec et de l'Acadie does not have this particular set of information and once I am convinced that I have sufficient proof I will add the information. Ancestry offers four trees for this line but none go back before Thomas Welland (Whelan) and Elizabeth Pépin dite Lachance.

Pougeolle dit Perpignan and Dassilva dit Portugais
I was quite amazed as the family lines for Elizabeth (Isabelle) Thibaut dite Labbé were really difficult to read on the marriage register of 1784. Jean François Thibaut (father of Elizabeth Thibaut) married Marie Françoise Pougeolle dit Perpignan 28 Sep 1784 at Notre-Dame, Québec City. Jean François' parents were Charles François Thibaut and his mother is Catherine and possibly Bissoneau but I continue to check out the last name as it is a little difficult to read. However the names of Marie Françoise's parents are quite clearly Jean François Pougeolle dit Perpignan and Marie Angélique Dassilva dite Portugais. They married at Québec City 12 Nov 1764 and again their parents names were quite legible.
Jean François' parents: Jean Pougeolle dit Perpignan and Maria Pia
Marie Angélique's parents: Jean Baptiste Dassilva dit Portugais and Marie Girard who married at Québec City 24 Nov 1744.
Jean Baptiste Dassilva parents were: Jean Baptiste Dassilva dit Portugais and Angélique Rosalie Amyot dit Lincourt who married at Québec City 26 Oct 1727.
Marie Girard parents were: Jean Girard and Catherine Bouré who married at Charlesbourg 16 May 1703.
Carrying on with the Dassilva line I was able to continue tracing back at Québec City and discovered Jean Baptiste's parents to be Pierre (Pedro Da Silva) Dassilva dit Portugais who was born circa 1647 at Lisbon Portugal and died in 1717 at Québec City. He married Jeanne Greslon dit Laviolette 16 May 1677 at Beaupré, Québec. The parents of Pierre were Joseph Dassilva dit Portugais and his wife Marie François from the marriage registration for Pierre and Jeanne. Jeanne was born 9 Feb 1663 at Chateau Richer, Québec and the daughter of Jacques Greslon dit Laviolette and Jeanne Vigneault who married 3 Jul 1657 at Québec City. Their parents (all born and married in France) were Jacques Greslon and his wife Cathrine (last name I need to decipher) and Abel Vignau and his wife Susane Bonnear (?). Their parishes were listed on the marriage registration. The last set of couples are 12x great grandparents to our son in law (paternal side). A truly remarkable history tracing back to the early days of New France. Once I reach back into the 1700s I can find others searching these family lines but I am on my own through the 1800s and 1900s for the most part.
The breakthrough on this line was my eldest daughter reading the register over my shoulder and realizing that I was misreading the last letter of Pougeolle (I had an a and nothing came up for this name). Once we changed the last letter to an "e" and entire family history unfolded before our eyes as it is written up in the following website. I then verified all the marriages in the Notre Dame parish register.

This couple's daughter Marie Françoise Pougeolle dit Perpignan married Jean François Thibaut 28 Sep 1784 at Notre-Dame, Québec and their daughter Elizabeth Thibaut dite Labbé married Jean Baptiste Fournier dit Larose 1809 at Notre-Dame, Québec thus solving the mystery of Elizabeth's mother's name which was so difficult to interpret on the marriage registration.
Elizabeth was the mother of Emilie Fournier dite Larose who married Jean Thomas Whelan (Welland) 13 Jan 1835 which was my starting point two days ago. I still have not solved the Whelan/Welland family although did discover that Arthur a brother to Thomas lived at Aylmer, Québec and on the 1911 census stated his ancestry as Irish which could be very helpful. I know that Jean Thomas was born in Québec around 1814 and I have been busy reading the registers. I am up to page 90 in 1814. The Whelan name is a fairly common one in Ottawa but they do not appear to be connected to this family which the priest actually records as Welland. The Whelan being used at a later period. Welland though does not lead me backwards in time at all.
Today I will spend time once again on the Whelan/Welland families and see if I can solve that mystery. Thomas Welland married Elizabeth Pepin dite Lachance but I do not have a marriage for them yet and they are the parents of Jean Thomas Whelan/Welland who married Emilie Fournier dite Larose.
Jean François' parents: Jean Pougeolle dit Perpignan and Maria Pia
Marie Angélique's parents: Jean Baptiste Dassilva dit Portugais and Marie Girard who married at Québec City 24 Nov 1744.
Jean Baptiste Dassilva parents were: Jean Baptiste Dassilva dit Portugais and Angélique Rosalie Amyot dit Lincourt who married at Québec City 26 Oct 1727.
Marie Girard parents were: Jean Girard and Catherine Bouré who married at Charlesbourg 16 May 1703.
Carrying on with the Dassilva line I was able to continue tracing back at Québec City and discovered Jean Baptiste's parents to be Pierre (Pedro Da Silva) Dassilva dit Portugais who was born circa 1647 at Lisbon Portugal and died in 1717 at Québec City. He married Jeanne Greslon dit Laviolette 16 May 1677 at Beaupré, Québec. The parents of Pierre were Joseph Dassilva dit Portugais and his wife Marie François from the marriage registration for Pierre and Jeanne. Jeanne was born 9 Feb 1663 at Chateau Richer, Québec and the daughter of Jacques Greslon dit Laviolette and Jeanne Vigneault who married 3 Jul 1657 at Québec City. Their parents (all born and married in France) were Jacques Greslon and his wife Cathrine (last name I need to decipher) and Abel Vignau and his wife Susane Bonnear (?). Their parishes were listed on the marriage registration. The last set of couples are 12x great grandparents to our son in law (paternal side). A truly remarkable history tracing back to the early days of New France. Once I reach back into the 1700s I can find others searching these family lines but I am on my own through the 1800s and 1900s for the most part.
The breakthrough on this line was my eldest daughter reading the register over my shoulder and realizing that I was misreading the last letter of Pougeolle (I had an a and nothing came up for this name). Once we changed the last letter to an "e" and entire family history unfolded before our eyes as it is written up in the following website. I then verified all the marriages in the Notre Dame parish register.

Whelan/Welland and Fournier dit Larose families
I have been trying different approaches to work on the Whelan/Welland family. Knowing the history of this family might be helpful. The family is at Quebec City in the early 1800s and I know that Marie Emélie Whelan who was baptized 27 Jun 1843 at Notre-Dame is the daughter of Jean Thomas Whelan/Welland and that by the census he is born circa 1814. Jean Thomas Whelan married Emilie Fournier dite Larose (b c 1816 Quebec) were married 13 Jan 1835 at Notre-Dame, Quebec City. I have been lucky with Emilie as I found her parents to be Jean Baptiste Fournier dit Larose and Elisabeth Thibaut dite Labbé who married at Quebec city 10 Oct 1809.
I then found the parents of Jean Baptiste Fournier dit Larose to be Jérome Fournier dit Larose and Magdeleine Godin who also married at Quebec City 17 Jan 1786.
Magdeleine's parents were Thiery Gaudin and Marguerite Lefebvre who married 7 Jan 1755 at St Jean Baptiste, Les Ecureuils de Portneuf. Reading their marriage lines yielded parents as: Jean Gaudin and Geneviève François and Nicolas Lefebvre and Marguerite Godbout. Although World Connect suggests parents for all four of these people I shall work on this marriage as their suggestions seem to have parents a little older than I would have thought. I need to read the registers for this time period.
