This will of William Blake of Bedford Row includes legacies to his daughters including Frances [will blogged 10 Jan 2017], Alicia, wife of Thomas Strickland, and Caroline wife of John Robley, and makes his only son William sole executor. William Blake aged 77 was buried in the North Aisle of St Bartholomew 05/06/1810, and Alicia Blake, his wife was buried 08/04/1809. William Blake’s will refers to property at Chiswick and in Aldersgate, the latter on a long lease.
Within the will, William mentions his nephews and nieces Frears thus helping to prove that this was likely the William Blake who lived at Ravenglas, Cumberland. There are several bequests that could be researched to perhaps learn more about William Blake in his younger years. Searching on innholder, Ravenglas, Frears, Edward Frears did not reveal any further information on this Blake family in Cumberland.
Children living at the time of his death included Frances, Alicia, Caroline and William. The remainder of his children must be assumed to be deceased.

There are a number of wills that belong to this family but a review of the wills of the Robley family do not add to the knowledge of this Blake family hence they will not be transcribed but the will of William Blake (the son of the testator) will be transcribed next. I will return to Lancashire wills once completed.

1 This is the last Will
2 and Testament of me William Blake of Boston now in
3 the County of Midd[lese]x Esqr which I write publish and declare
4 in manner following that is to say I give devise and bequeath
5 unto my Son William Blake the younger his heirs Ex[ecut]ors
6 and admors all and every the copyhold and leasehold
7 messauges or Tenements and premises at Chiswick in the

49 Trusts for my daur Caroline and her issue in all respects as are
50 herein before declared respecting the trust monies hereinbefore
51 by me given for the benefit of my said daur Alicia and her Issue
52 as aforesaid and it is my Will that the said Trust monies
53 shall become payable by my Exor at the end of twelve calendar
54 months next after my decease and then in case any now
55 Trustees shall after such payment be appointed under the
56 said Settlement of my said daurs Alicia and Caroline or either of
57 them then the said Trust monies so by me given for their

Will of Henry Blake of Tetbury, Gloucestershire - Diocese of Bristol Wills on Ancestry, probated 15 Dec 1664
The testator is Henry Blake of Tetbury. He identifies all of his children and possibly in age of birth and his now wife Mary. Children are Edward, Henry, George, Hester Pinkhett, William, Toby, Christopher, Samuel, and Susanna. Interestingly Tetbury is just 3 miles from Shipton Moyne and there is a son George. This is before there were King Georges so not necessarily a common name at this time. However this is nearly two hundred years earlier than George left his will at Duntisbourne Abbots in 1832. But interesting nonetheless.

He doesn’t name any children in his will but could he be the Christopher named in this will. He is elderly perhaps but he only names cousins. No siblings. The similarity in the names is somewhat interesting as he has a cousin Edward Blake, a cousin Henry Blake, a cousin William Blake, he has a sister Susannah and a cousin Hester. A cousin once removed Hester as well. They live in Shipton Moyne, Tetbury, Horsley, and Chipping Sodbury.
An interesting site that is archived on oocities has information on Blake at Tetbury and this would appear to be from the Poor Law Records and the parish registers as well as the Hearth Tax. I do not like to add records to my pages that have not been researched but I am not sure if these pages will survive although appear to be archived on oocites.org. This appears to be a collection of information by Elizabeth Janson looking at the inhabitants in Tetbury and this is the information for Blake (all dates are in new style), I will record them here for my future reference in case the site disappears and until I am able to verify them:

He doesn’t name any children in his will but could he be the Christopher named in this will. He is elderly perhaps but he only names cousins. No siblings. The similarity in the names is somewhat interesting as he has a cousin Edward Blake, a cousin Henry Blake, a cousin William Blake, he has a sister Susannah and a cousin Hester. A cousin once removed Hester as well. They live in Shipton Moyne, Tetbury, Horsley, and Chipping Sodbury.
An interesting site that is archived on oocities has information on Blake at Tetbury and this would appear to be from the Poor Law Records and the parish registers as well as the Hearth Tax. I do not like to add records to my pages that have not been researched but I am not sure if these pages will survive although appear to be archived on oocites.org. This appears to be a collection of information by Elizabeth Janson looking at the inhabitants in Tetbury and this is the information for Blake (all dates are in new style), I will record them here for my future reference in case the site disappears and until I am able to verify them:

Will of Peter Blake of Andover - National Archives PROB 11/418/296 - probated 16 Feb 1694
Peter Blake testator is the son of Peter Blake whose will was transcribed earlier.

From the Visitation of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight in 1686, Peter Blake was the son of Peter Blake and Margaret Smith (daughter of Vincent Smith). He was at Balliol College, University of Oxford and was said to be 20 years of age in 1686 (hence he was 28 years of age when his will was probated). Peter does mention his step mother Elizabeth in his will (Elizabeth daughter of James Gould of Dorchester, Dorset). This Visitation is the one that I question most often as the father of Peter (will 1692) is said to be William (will 1642) son of Richard Blake of Andover (will in 1622) son of William Blake and Anne Tutt (1st son William mentioned in his grandfather's will of 1606). It just isn't possible for a younger son Richard to have married Jone Blake daughter of William Blake and for them to have had their 14 children who were mostly adults by 1622. Indeed Richard did have a son William (baptized c1587) who was the linen draper and a son Peter baptized in 1596 and William (baptized 1615) suspiciously had a daughter Dorothy who married John Smyth and a son Peter baptized 1619) . Dorothy Smyth having been mentioned in Peter (father of this testator Peter Blake) Blake's will. Only one brother of Peter is mentioned in the Visitation and that is John Blake (baptized 1624 at Andover) and he was apprenticed to Robert Mason merchant 11 Jul 1642 (he would be 18 years of age).
There is a second visitation for the Blake family in the 1686 version and it lists Peter as a brother to William Blake of Eston towne and Anne Tutt and hence son of William Blake of Eastontowne. The question is does this make him too elderly to have been the testator in the will although would have been born only ten to twelve years earlier since he is not mentioned in his grandfather's will of 1607. In 1692 he would have been 72 years old according to the earlier visitation mentioned. No ages are given on the second Visitation. Anyway a puzzle thus far that joins the other puzzles that the wills have introduced into my Blake study.

Will of John Blake, Clerke of Feyreford, Gloucestershire, National Archives PROB 11/37, Image Reference 291/231 , probated 4 Apr 1555
Again, I chose this will to photograph at Kew because it was the earliest Blake will in Gloucestershire. Date in 1552 and probated in 1555. I can not find him on the Clergy database for England nor is he listed as a graduate of Oxford University. However he may appear in the Wiltshire and Swindon Pedigree Chart listed as John Blague Abbot of Cirencester in County Gloucester. He is, from the chart, the son of David Blague and Joanne Mallet with this David being the son of John Blague and Margaret Denham/Dyncham/Dinham. John was the son of Robert Blake and Avice Wallop and was mentioned in his mother's will as being over 40 with her will being probated in 1474. The timing does work with John born in 1434 or earlier, then his son David born before 1474 and his son John being born in the late 1400s or early 1500s. You might wonder why John doesn't mention his family but he has been in this diocese prior to the Dissolution of the Abbeys by King Henry VIII as he is named as Abbot at the time of Dissolution. The people closest to him were probably his servants and the gentry of his area which included Sir Anthony Kyngston and Sir Walter Buck[e]ler. The reference to John Blake as Abbot can be found in the chapter "Gloucestershire-Lincolnshire" by Thomas Cox, Anthony Hall and Robert Morden and part of the book Magna Britannia Antiqua and Nova: or a new exact and comprehansive Survey of the Ancient and Present State of Great-Britain, Volume II, Caesar Ward and Richard Chandler Booksellers: Ship without Temple Bar, 1738.
