Frances Blake, testatrix, was the daughter of William and Alicia (Hodgson) Blake of Bedford Row, Middlesex who married at St Stephen, Coleman Street, London, England the 11th October 1765.
An online tree at Ancestry (BennettOct15 plus verification with original records) was helpful with putting together a list of the children of William and Alicia Blake. This tree proposes that William Blake (father of Frances) was born at Ravenglass, Cumberland 1 Jan 1733 and baptized 8 Jan 1733 at Muncaster (along with his twin sister Elizabeth). Doing a search of the Cumberland-L Archives revealed a researcher looking for William Blake of Ravenglass, innkeeper, married to Frances N. This couple had a third child Isabelle married to Edward Frears of Ravenglass/Muncaster. This same researcher (Rob Schouten) states: The Family of Blake of Danesbury was a collateral branch of the family of Robert Blake, admiral at sea, of the Blakes of Somerset. However I cannot trace back its roots further then to William Blake, innholder of Ravenglass, Cumberland who died 1748; his widow Frances remarried Ralph Foster.

Brother-in-law and devisee-in-trust of John Robley (q.v.) under his will (dated 1807 but proved with codicils 1824). Caroline Robley (q.v.), John Robley's widow, was the daughter of William and Alicia Blake: this is her brother (born in 1774). A letter in the West Yorkshire Archives Service from James Cunningham in Bristol to William Blake of Portland Place concerning the estate of John Robley confirmed the link. [As does the will of Frances Blake the present testatrix where she mentions William Blake of Portland Place as her brother.]
William Blake the son of William and Alicia Blake was baptised at St Bartholomew 27/02/1774 (born 31/01/1774) while Caroline Blake was baptised at St Botolphs in 1777 and on her marriage to John Robley in 1799 at St Botolph's Aldersgate, at which William Blake was a witness, she was described as 'of this parish'.
The will of William Blake of Bedford Row whose will was proved 26/11/1810 [will transcribe this will next] specifies legacies to his daughters including Frances [testatrix of this blogged will], Alicia, wife of Thomas Strickland, and Caroline wife of John Robley, and makes his only son William sole executor. A William Blake aged 77 was buried in the North Aisle of St Bartholomew 05/06/1810, as Alicia Blake had been on 08/04/1809. The profession of William Blake of Bedford Row has not been identified: his will refers to property at Chiswick [?] and in Aldersgate, the latter on a long let, but carries no further clues. A William Blake left an insurance partnership in Bristol with John Gresley, James Rogers and others in 1785, but the baptisms of William Blake of Bedford Row's children point to a firm City base in the 1770s. It is conceivable but not demonstrated that William Blake of Bedford Row (d. 1810) was the partner in Sansom, Blake and Postlethwaite, bankers of 65 Lombard Street: if so, William Blake of Bedford Row was partners with the abolitionist Philip Sansom at the same time that his daughter Caroline Blake was marrying into a slave-owning family.
William Blake the son, brother of Caroline Robley, is shown in the 1851 census at 62 Portland Place a widower aged 77 'Landed proprietor, fundholder, barr[ister] not in practice', born St Bartholomew, living with his son William John, also 'barr[ister] not in practice' aged 45, and unmarried daughter Frances aged 47. Will of William Blake of Portland Place proved 22/12/1852.
William Blake the son, brother of Caroline Robley, is the William Blake of Danesbury [Welwyn, Hertfordshire], whose papers are at the Hertfordshire Local Records Office. The papers contain no reference to Caroline Robley but they link William Blake by Portland Place, by the heir William John Blake and the unmarried daughter Frances (Fanny). The introduction to the papers detail William and Mary Blake's inheritance of the Darker estates in England. The sons of William Blake (d. 1852) were: William John Blake, MP for Newport 1837-41 who left £140,000 on his death in 1875; and his brother Henry Wollaston Blake was an eminent engineer. The daughters of William Blake (d. 1852), Ellen, Caroline and Emily married respectively John Alexander Hankey (q.v.), Henry Davidson (q.v.) and Christopher William Puller, suggesting from the first two at least a West Indian mercantile nexus.
William Blake of Portland Place Middlesex and Danesbury Place [near Welwyn] Hertfordshire (31/01/1774-24//11/1852) 'apparently a landowner in Hertfordshire and was also a barrister, but his father's occupation could not be traced. His father was apparently in business or in a profession in London, but could not be identified in directories or other sources. In 1883 Arthur Maurice Blake of Danesbury owned 4343 acres worth £7331 p.a., in Hertfordshire, Leicestershire etc.' In 1823 his address was 'of Hartwell Buckinghamshire' (Alum. Oxon for his son). Father was William Blake of London and Wimbledon. Charterhouse School; Trinity College Cambridge (BA 1793); Fellow of Trinity 1795-7. Barrister Lincoln's Inn (called 1799). Married Mary Nash, daughter of Joseph Nash (at least two sons, including William John Blake (1805-75) the Liberal MP 1837-41). High Sheriff of Hertfordshire 1836-7. Art collector (Alum Cantab.) Left £140,000.

The testator is Martin Thomlinson Blake. There is a baptism on family search for Martin Thomlinson Blake 24 Nov 1753 at Saint Olave Hart Street, London with parents Martin and Elizabeth Blake. If correct the testator was only 24 years of age when he died. This couple may have baptized a daughter Sarah Town Blake 13 May 1752 (born 6 May) at St Katherine Coleman and another daughter Mary 6 Apr 1755 also at Saint Olave Hart Street. Could not find a marriage for Martin Blake and Elizabeth (unknown).

Thomas, the testator, and his wife do not appear to have any children. I believe this is the husband of Elizabeth Blake, widow, who asked to be buried beside her husband who was buried in St Martin Church in Exeter (line 149 of this will includes his request to be buried at St Martin Church in Exeter). The marriage of Thomas Blake and Elizabeth Hatherly was celebrated 26 Oct 1752 at Kenton Devon (Kenton is 7 miles SSE of Exeter).

This John is said to be the son of Nicholas Blake and Mary Matthews (they had two sons Thomas and John). Nicholas is said to be the son of Nicholas Blake and Anne Meadows (they had two sons Martyn and Nicholas). This Nicholas is said to be the son of William Blake and Anne Lentlow. This William Blake is said to be the son of Martin Blake and Catherine Vaughan (they had two sons William and Richard). This Martin is said to be the son of William Blake married to Jone (unknown) (they had three sons Martin, Walter and Roger). This William is said to be the son of John Blake and unknown (John died 18 Aug 1558 in Overstowey Somerset) (they had two sons and a daughter Humphrey, William and Alice (married to unknown Cabull)). This John is said to be a son of Robert Blake and Avice Wallop which is incorrect as their son John died at Nether Wallop in 1504 leaving a will which does not name a son William.
The Blake Pedigree Chart held by the Swindon and Wiltshire Record Office does have part of this line. They have a son for John Blake (d Nether Wallop 1504 and son of Robert Blake and Avice Wallop) named David and he married Joane Mallet. His son John Blake later became the Abbot of Cirencester in Gloucester) and second son William Blake of Lacock Wiltshire married Margaret Brown (daughter of William Browne of Wablyn). William and Margaret are shown to have two sons Martin who married Catherine Vaughan and John who is said to be the ancestor of Lord High Admiral Robert Blake. This family then disappears from the chart. The time frame for the information on the website mentioned above does not fit the actual and I believe I finally do dismiss it in some parts. The individual who created the online website lives in Somerset and is quite knowledgeable but some of the information is taken from sources that are incorrect namely Horatio Gates Somersby. I will let her know of this latest will so that she can revise her webpage if she so wishes to do. There is still the problem is Thomas the testator a son of the Reverend Thomas Blake who was buried at Alwington
Interesting that Thomas, the testator, mentions having Clergyman’s robes and Cassocks in his home and is this proof that he is indeed descended from the Reverend Thomas Blake who was buried 23 Nov 1713 at Alwington at the age of 61 years.

Stuckly Stevins was baptized 17 Dec 1721 at Barnstaple son of John Stevins and Mary. There were two marriages on Family Search that could be his parents: John Steephins married Mary Rice 14 Jun 1713 at Saint Mary Arches, Exeter, Devon and John Stephans married Mary Shamler 26 Dec 1713 at Kenn, Devon. I suspect that neither of these marriages are his parents however as both are in the Exeter area! The National Archives (UK) carries a document dated 2 Apr 1798 48/25/11/22 which names Stuckly Stevens as a leasee of Castle House in Barnstaple prior to that time.
Mrs. Juliana Pasley/Pasly is mentioned in both the will of Martha Blake blogged (http://kippeeb.blogspot.ca/2013/07/will-of-martha-blake-widow-exon-devon.html ) and the present will. She was a niece to Martha Blake.

As always very interesting to put these wills together. The Commissioner for this will’s deponents was John Stabback who was mentioned in the wills of Elizabeth, wife of Thomas the present testator and Martha Blake. I wonder why Thomas doesn’t mention that Martha is his sister in law though if she actually is.

This family then disappears from the chart. The time frame for the information on the website mentioned above does not fit the actual and I believe I finally do dismiss it in some parts. The individual who created the online website lives in Somerset and is quite knowledgeable but some of the information is taken from sources that are incorrect namely Horatio Gates Somersby. I will let her know of this latest will so that she can revise her webpage if she so wishes to do. There is still the problem is Thomas the testator a son of the Reverend Thomas Blake who was buried at Alwington
Interesting that Thomas, the testator, mentions having Clergyman’s robes and Cassocks in his home and is this proof that he is indeed descended from the Reverend Thomas Blake who was buried 23 Nov 1713 at Alwington at the age of 61 years.

Stuckly Stevins was baptized 17 Dec 1721 at Barnstaple son of John Stevins and Mary. There were two marriages on Family Search that could be his parents: John Steephins married Mary Rice 14 Jun 1713 at Saint Mary Arches, Exeter, Devon and John Stephans married Mary Shamler 26 Dec 1713 at Kenn, Devon. I suspect that neither of these marriages are his parents however as both are in the Exeter area! The National Archives (UK) carries a document dated 2 Apr 1798 48/25/11/22 which names Stuckly Stevens as a leasee of Castle House in Barnstaple prior to that time.
Mrs. Juliana Pasley/Pasly is mentioned in both the will of Martha Blake blogged (http://kippeeb.blogspot.ca/2013/07/will-of-martha-blake-widow-exon-devon.html ) and the present will. She was a niece to Martha Blake.

As always very interesting to put these wills together. The Commissioner for this will’s deponents was John Stabback who was mentioned in the wills of Elizabeth, wife of Thomas the present testator and Martha Blake. I wonder why Thomas doesn’t mention that Martha is his sister in law though if she actually is.

No ideas on this family. I did find Ezekiel Blake in Hemel Hempstead with his wife and a son Ezekiel being baptized. Is this family from Devon where the name Ezekiel Blake is also found? As more of the Buckinghamshire wills are transcribed I might have further information on this family.

1 This is the last Will
2 and Testament of me James Blake the Elder of
3 Chenies in the County of Bucks Shoemaker First I

There are a variety of wills here (some again very long) which may provide information on my Buller family. I do not know if all of these wills are for individuals who descend from the Cornwall line although definitely James Buller of Downes is a descendant of the Cornwall family.
James Buller of Downs (died 1765) was the son of John Francis Buller and Rebecca Trelawny. He married first Elizabeth daughter and coheir of William Gould of Downes (she died 1742) and their single child was James Buller who left his will in 1772. His second wife was Lady Jane Bathurst and their sons included John-2 Buller of Morval and Sir Francis Buller, Judge of the Court of Common Pleas (of whom more later). The will for the James Buller dying in 1765 is perhaps the James Buller at Kings Nympton. I have listed below the Buller wills on Genuki for Devon. There are quite a few that would have been rather interesting but all of these were lost during the bombing of the Exeter Record Office in WWII. Some are still available located in other documents and if I find that I am still pursuing the Buller family of my own following all of this transcription I may yet look at these to see if I can find other documents that might help me. Again Christopher was born circa 1763.

This will for Anne Buller was probated in 1800 and she lived at Exeter. She was widowed at the time of writing the will and names her children Susanna Catherine, Richard and Georgiana. She then also names her daughter Ann married to James Buller of Downes. According to the Visitation this Anne was the daughter of the Bishop of Exeter. James Buller and Anne Buller married 6 Jun 1791. Working back in the visitation this Anne is the daughter of William who married Anne Thomas daughter of the Right Reverend John Thomas, D.D. Bishop of Winchester 19 Apr 1762. This William is a son of John Francis Buller and Rebecca Trelawyn. William was a brother to James Buller who was married to Elizabeth Gould and hence they were first cousins. The Anne Buller testator of this will is the daughter of the Bishops of Winchester, the Right Reverend John Thomas, D.D.
Unfortunately the Visitation does not follow all of the children of William and Anne Buller (parents of Anne Buller married to James Buller of Downes). Only Susanna Catherine is mentioned and she married Admiral Sir John Duckworth Baronet, GCB, MP.
Richard Buller married Anna Sophia Marshall and he was the vicar at Colyton, Devon apparently according to an online tree. Their children were Anna Sophia Buller and William Buller (Anna born 26 Oct 1801 and William born 22 Nov 1803). This line then does not lead to my Christopher as Richard would be a contemporary of his having been born circa 1776 as was Georgiana his sister who was also not followed down in the Visitation.

There are a variety of wills here (some again very long) which may provide information on my Buller family. I do not know if all of these wills are for individuals who descend from the Cornwall line although definitely James Buller of Downes is a descendant of the Cornwall family.
James Buller of Downs (died 1765) was the son of John Francis Buller and Rebecca Trelawny. He married first Elizabeth daughter and coheir of William Gould of Downes (she died 1742) and their single child was James Buller who left his will in 1772. His second wife was Lady Jane Bathurst and their sons included John-2 Buller of Morval and Sir Francis Buller, Judge of the Court of Common Pleas (of whom more later). The will for the James Buller dying in 1765 is perhaps the James Buller at Kings Nympton. I have listed below the Buller wills on Genuki for Devon. There are quite a few that would have been rather interesting but all of these were lost during the bombing of the Exeter Record Office in WWII. Some are still available located in other documents and if I find that I am still pursuing the Buller family of my own following all of this transcription I may yet look at these to see if I can find other documents that might help me. Again Christopher was born circa 1763.

This will for Anne Buller was probated in 1800 and she lived at Exeter. She was widowed at the time of writing the will and names her children Susanna Catherine, Richard and Georgiana. She then also names her daughter Ann married to James Buller of Downes. According to the Visitation this Anne was the daughter of the Bishop of Exeter. James Buller and Anne Buller married 6 Jun 1791. Working back in the visitation this Anne is the daughter of William who married Anne Thomas daughter of the Right Reverend John Thomas, D.D. Bishop of Winchester 19 Apr 1762. This William is a son of John Francis Buller and Rebecca Trelawyn. William was a brother to James Buller who was married to Elizabeth Gould and hence they were first cousins. The Anne Buller testator of this will is the daughter of the Bishops of Winchester, the Right Reverend John Thomas, D.D.
Unfortunately the Visitation does not follow all of the children of William and Anne Buller (parents of Anne Buller married to James Buller of Downes). Only Susanna Catherine is mentioned and she married Admiral Sir John Duckworth Baronet, GCB, MP.
Richard Buller married Anna Sophia Marshall and he was the vicar at Colyton, Devon apparently according to an online tree. Their children were Anna Sophia Buller and William Buller (Anna born 26 Oct 1801 and William born 22 Nov 1803). This line then does not lead to my Christopher as Richard would be a contemporary of his having been born circa 1776 as was Georgiana his sister who was also not followed down in the Visitation.

Welch at Rugeley, Staffordshire and Birmingham
Anne Welch married Henry Christopher Buller 23 Aug 1838 at Edgbaston, Warwickshire, UK with this being a first marriage for Anne and a second marriage for Henry Christopher Buller. Anne was only 18 years of age but claimed to be "full age" or 21 years of age. The witnesses for the marriage are unknown to me and do not appear to provide any further details on this family. I suspect that she eloped although the next time we see Anne she is on the census with her family and first child also Henry a 2 year old (1841) whilst Henry is in London running his butcher shop in the Covent Garden area. At some point Anne joins Henry in London (or perhaps she was just on holiday back to her parents in 1841) but the next four children are born in London and baptized at St Martin in the Field. We visited this church which overlooks Trafalgar Square and ate at their cafeteria in the crypt when we visited last October.
Anne was a twin and baptized 4 Jan 1820 at Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire. According to the census she was born at Lichfield, Staffordshire. Her parents were William Welch and Sarah Cheatle who were themselves married 24 Aug 1818 at Longdon by Lichfield also Staffordshire. Both William and Sarah signed the marriage registration and one of the witnesses was William Cheatle.
In the 1851 census of the Welch family at Birmingham visiting them is Hannah Tomlinson who is soon to become the wife of one of Anne's brothers and by lucky coincidence is also a niece to William Welch. His sister Mary Welch married John Tomlinson 26 Jun 1814 at Rugeley, Staffordshire and both William and Hannah had listed Rugeley as their place of birth on this census. William on this census and on the 1841 census is listed as proprietor of Welch Eating House located on the corner of Lower Temple Street and King Street in Birmingham. His occupation is listed as Provision Dealer. The priest, on his daughter's marriage registration (and actually all of the children), has listed William Welch as a gentleman.
Locating William at Rugeley proved to be a fairly straightforward pursuit and he was the son of John Welch and Margaret Brockhouse and they were married 16 Feb 1783 at Rugeley. They had 11 children

Second marriage for Henry was to Mary Copeland Yates mar quarter 1863 at Aston and they had two children William bc 1864 and Albert C bc 1866 both at Birmingham. Third marriage for Henry was to Mary Newey march quarter 1870 at King's Norton and they had four children Frances E bc 1870, Sidney J bc 1872, Ernest E bc 1875 and Lilley bc 1880 all at Birmingham.

In general, as far as I could tell from the parish registers, all of the Welch entries after the mid 1700s at Rugeley belong to the descendants of John Welch and Margaret Brockhouse.
Reading the Rugeley parish registers at Salt Lake City it was quite straightforward to trace John Welch back to his parents Thomas and Mary Welch at his baptism 25 Apr 1756 at Rugeley and their marriage as there was only the one Welch family at Rugeley. Thomas Welch married Mary Linn by Banns 2 Sep 1745. Thomas himself was baptized 22 Apr 1711 at Rugeley the son of William and Sarah Welch. Thomas and Mary Welch had five children

The Welch family is found there as noted in 1675 and again the entries after 1713 which appear to be a different family from the William and Sarah Welch grouping from 1711 to 1713.
I had expected to find a lot of Welch families on the IGI in the area but the only one I found was a William Welch baptized 21 Jul 1666 at Farewell Staffordshire and the son of John Welch and that was between 1650 and 1690 in Staffordshire. Expanding that to Warwick I found two more entries - one at Wormleighton in 1664 and one at Claverdon in 1680. Leicester had no baptismal entries. Shropshire had one in 1690 at Bishops Castle.
I transcribed the land tax assessments for Rugeley and did not find any indication of my Welch family in those entries in 1783 and 1813.

There are a few interesting entries that I will mention later for other families.
To continue with the Welch family, I probably need a bit of serendipity and perhaps that will be forthcoming my next research day on the Welch family.
Anne was a twin and baptized 4 Jan 1820 at Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire. According to the census she was born at Lichfield, Staffordshire. Her parents were William Welch and Sarah Cheatle who were themselves married 24 Aug 1818 at Longdon by Lichfield also Staffordshire. Both William and Sarah signed the marriage registration and one of the witnesses was William Cheatle.
In the 1851 census of the Welch family at Birmingham visiting them is Hannah Tomlinson who is soon to become the wife of one of Anne's brothers and by lucky coincidence is also a niece to William Welch. His sister Mary Welch married John Tomlinson 26 Jun 1814 at Rugeley, Staffordshire and both William and Hannah had listed Rugeley as their place of birth on this census. William on this census and on the 1841 census is listed as proprietor of Welch Eating House located on the corner of Lower Temple Street and King Street in Birmingham. His occupation is listed as Provision Dealer. The priest, on his daughter's marriage registration (and actually all of the children), has listed William Welch as a gentleman.
Locating William at Rugeley proved to be a fairly straightforward pursuit and he was the son of John Welch and Margaret Brockhouse and they were married 16 Feb 1783 at Rugeley. They had 11 children
Thomas baptized 3 Nov 1783 at Rugeley and married to Rebecca Reeves 8 Aug 1814 at Rugeley (and they had seven children - Mary b 1815, Elizabeth b 1816, John b 1819, Joseph b 1823, Thomas b 1826, Martha b 1833 and Samuel b 1838).
John baptized 3 Jul 1785 at Rugeley
Ann baptized 11 Nov 1787 at Rugeley and married to William Beardsmore 15 Sep 1812 at Rugeley (and they had 9 children - John b 1813, Ann b 1814, Esther b 1819, Louisa b 1821, Mary b 1822, Elizabeth b 1825, Samuel b 1826, Jane b 1829 and Thomas b 1832).
Sarah baptized 10 May 1789 at Rugeley and married to William Reeves 15 Oct 1812 at Rugeley (and they had five children - Susanna b 1813, Margaret b 1815, Samuel b 1817, Thomas b 1819 and William b 1821).

Minnie married Walter James Haynes sep quarter 1884 at Birmingham and Anne Buller is found on the 1891 census with her niece and her family. Second marriage for Henry was to Mary Copeland Yates mar quarter 1863 at Aston and they had two children William bc 1864 and Albert C bc 1866 both at Birmingham. Third marriage for Henry was to Mary Newey march quarter 1870 at King's Norton and they had four children Frances E bc 1870, Sidney J bc 1872, Ernest E bc 1875 and Lilley bc 1880 all at Birmingham.
Hannah baptized 6 Apr 1794 at Rugeley and married to John Wilks 26 Dec 1814 at Rugeley (they had one daughter).
Susanna baptized 8 Nov 1795 at Rugeley.
Frances baptized 2 Jul 1797 at Rugeley.
Henry baptized 5 May 1799 at Rugeley and married to Elizabeth Radford 19 Apr 1824 at Colton Staffordshire (they had three children - Henry baptized 5 Feb 1826 at Rugeley and married to Elizabeth and they had six children, Elizabeth baptized 22 Aug 1827 at Rugeley and married to John Stretton mar quarter 1848 at Rugeley and they had a number of children, and Anne baptized 20 Jun 1830 at Rugeley.
James baptized 12 Jul 1801 at Rugeley married Lucy and they had six children .
In general, as far as I could tell from the parish registers, all of the Welch entries after the mid 1700s at Rugeley belong to the descendants of John Welch and Margaret Brockhouse.
Reading the Rugeley parish registers at Salt Lake City it was quite straightforward to trace John Welch back to his parents Thomas and Mary Welch at his baptism 25 Apr 1756 at Rugeley and their marriage as there was only the one Welch family at Rugeley. Thomas Welch married Mary Linn by Banns 2 Sep 1745. Thomas himself was baptized 22 Apr 1711 at Rugeley the son of William and Sarah Welch. Thomas and Mary Welch had five children

Susannah baptized 3 May 1761 at Rugeley
Since they had four daughters John was the only Welch to baptize children in the next generation at Rugeley.
The marriage of William and Sarah Welch does not appear to be at Rugeley; William was buried there 20 Apr 1713.

The Welch family is found there as noted in 1675 and again the entries after 1713 which appear to be a different family from the William and Sarah Welch grouping from 1711 to 1713.
I had expected to find a lot of Welch families on the IGI in the area but the only one I found was a William Welch baptized 21 Jul 1666 at Farewell Staffordshire and the son of John Welch and that was between 1650 and 1690 in Staffordshire. Expanding that to Warwick I found two more entries - one at Wormleighton in 1664 and one at Claverdon in 1680. Leicester had no baptismal entries. Shropshire had one in 1690 at Bishops Castle.
I transcribed the land tax assessments for Rugeley and did not find any indication of my Welch family in those entries in 1783 and 1813.
