Farmer and Lambden

I was amazed to discover that I have completed Parish Register 6 in an amazingly short period of time. Although this is a really busy season, the time just seemed to be there for me to sit and transcribe a couple of hours here and there. The reading is fairly straightforward (still 17th century writing but the pages are in good shape). I completed the baptisms and marriages up to mid year 1714 (same as the burials from Parish Register 4). There are now 2112 marriages up to September 1714 in St Marys Parish at Andover. Although I have all of this material transcribed it still needs to be proofread which will be a rather time consuming process which I will get at hopefully sooner rather than later so that I can put it up online on the OPC Hampshire website.

When I do Penton Mewsey I will proofread it right away so that I can submit it but it will be considerably shorter and hence easier to proofread - there are fewer names to stumble over! As soon as I complete Parish Register 7 I will move to Penton Mewsey as I am now very keen to read that entire register.

Have I learned very many new items with this last register. There were a lot of Blake names in the register although principally female but it will be good to place them in the correct family name. It also helps me later when I suddenly have a marriage with the female line back into the Blake line which I suspect that the Farmer family may be one of those.

The Lambden family has appeared and they were transcribed on the LDS website as Camden. Easily done I am most sure but it was very heartening to see that family at Woodhouse which is where my 2x great grandmother Anne Farmer was baptized. I also had a surprise with Stock being a place name at St Mary Bourne. Henry Lambden of Stock married Mary Beckly of St Mary Bourn at Andover.

Another New Year's Eve and we have been married for 44 and a half years (almost). Most of our New Year's Eves we have spent at home either by ourselves or with children. Traditionally, we went "home" for New Years either to my parents or Ed's mother's house. But we stopped doing that about twenty years ago now and have always stayed here. Back there is eight hours through some of the worst traffic in Canada (the 401 through Toronto) and it was always an arduous trip which we didn't mind not doing. I think our children know that highway absolutely off by heart - they know when everything is coming where everything is all along the way. They have driven that particular highway so many times in their life.

My next project is to acquire images of our son-in-law's great grandparents and great great grandparents if that is possible. We purchased this wonderful chart and we are only missing his lines before his paternal grandparents, one of my husband's great-grandparents, and four of my great grandparents. I will not likely ever find any of the four although I have a picture of my mother's aunt who apparently looked very like her mother. My maternal grandmother's parents are very unlikely in terms of my finding a picture of them although I know that they looked very like my great uncle and my maternal grandmother. The fourth one there is always a possibility as he lived until 1913 but it would be pure luck!

My new picture frame is certainly proving to be very interesting. Although I could set up seven or eight pictures to look at at a time, that would mean that I wasn't doing any work. This way the pictures just flow past me and I glance over. The odds are in favour that I will recognize some of these images because I knew them as a child but it will take time for me to do that.

Presentation and back to work - 20 Sep 2009

My presentation is complete and it was well received - about 20 questions which added to my talk as it explained a couple of items that I had put forward but not everyone understood the meaning. It is my last talk as I want to dedicate my time to transcriptions and working on my DNA projects plus I need to update my Genuki Hampshire webpages.

I purchased a couple of items at the Conference that I have been wanting - herald's visitations and maps of the Andover area of Hampshire and the Selworthy area of Somerset as pertains to my ancestors in these two counties. They are Ordnance Survey maps and quite excellent. There were quite a few vendors at the Conference and I spent a few minutes after my talk looking at their tables.

I want to work on the Hinxman v Blake document with an eye to completing it in the next couple of days. I also need to prepare to look at the Great Driffield film once again as we will visit the LDS library soon - my husband's Warlin film is in. I do not see that I will make much use of the St Mary Borne film as I photographed all the pages for Lambden and I do not think that this is my direct Lambden line. I am still inclined to think he was from Berkshire directly. However, solid proof of that would be most interesting at this stage.

I worked on the Hinxman v Blake document again last evening and I am on the third scan now (the last third of the rather large document). I have 14 lines to complete and then I can go back and fill in the blanks!

Lambden - St Mary Bourne

I am amazed at the speed with which we are now at 13 September since my last blog post was the 6 September. Labour Day monday was a labour free day for me as we decided to bike and took a long ride. Then we watched JAG. Tuesday we watched JAG once again. Wednesday we went to the LDS library where my St Mary Bourne film had arrived and I wanted to image more of the Great Driffield film. Ed filmed Great Driffied from the burials 1653 up to the 1753 and included the baptisms and marriages from 1703 on. That was over 500 images and I shall have to read through them before going to the LDS once again. My Sproxton line was at Great Driffield well into the 1800s. My own direct line had moved on to Lund by the mid 1700s.

St Mary Bourne was a typed manuscript (which I knew) and is the only record that the LDS holds. I wanted to look at it before I ordered the fiche for St Mary Bourne from the Hampshire Record Office. There isn't a Nathanael/Nathaniel Lambden listed there and now I need to decide whether I should start moving further afield from Bradfield Berkshire by ordering the Thatcham Berkshire film or buy the St Mary Bourne film and transcribe it for myself. There are quite a few baptisms, marriages and burials at St Mary Bourne extended back into the early 1600s and the Lambden family continues there into the 1800s. Some of these Lambden members move to Andover and are found there in the mid 1700s along with my Nathanael Lambden family. I shall think it over for a week or so whilst we wait for the Warlin film to arrive for Ed. He is researching his Niemann family there and we found those entries on the IGI now that we have the full name for the father of Rachel Niemann (Ed's great grandmother).

Today is a very busy day so will have to complete the week's blog tomorrow.

I have to work on my talk this next week - I want to check for any new information on my studies. It will be nice to complete my talk as it tends to wake me up in the night - I practise in my sleep however not on purpose - it is simply my way of preparing for a talk.

Results of Research at Salt Lake City - 14 Dec 2008

Yesterday I completed the Protestation Returns for West Harnham, Britford and East Harnham and partial for Foffant. I thought I might find my Lywood family at Foffant along with the Baylie and Deart family but I am still transcribing these records. I also have the Enford, Milston and other returns in the area of these two to transcribe. Likely it will take me about a week to transcribe all of the Wiltshire Protestation Returns that I photographed. I know that my Rawlings family were at Enford from 1742 on but do not know where they were located prior to that although I am going to order the Enford Parish Register fiche just to be sure that they were not at Enford back in the 1600s. Since Jeremiah went all the way to Tilshead to marry it is certainly reasonable that his father William may well have married at Wylye and the marriage to Mary Ford is the correct one for this line.

I am starting to sort through the parish register fiche for the parishes of Enford, Milston, Netheravon, Woodford and Little Cheverell to select the copies that I want to purchase. As well I want to purchase some from Hampshire so am looking at Kimpton (I photographed the bishops transcripts but they are quite sparse so will purchase the actual parish register fiche for the years that I do not currently have). I also have the list for Fyfield where my Rawlings also lived, for St Mary Bourne where I want to look at Lambden, Longparish which is just a pursuit of Blake entries and I may leave this one for a bit, Weyhill and Wherwell are the same as Longparish. That leaves Hurstbourne Tarrant and Hurstborne Priors where I want to look at the Pearce family although I think that mine is from Abbots Ann and Collingbourne Kingston and may look at Collingbourne Kingston first so need to get the specs for this parish from the Wiltshire Record Office.

One of my projects though for this week is to complete my list of my records - I have listed all my CDs so just need to list all my fiche to give to Christ Church Anglican Archives. I will eventually donate them all there as I do not think that Library and Archives Canada would want such a selective set of records. I will look at both though so that they will have the maximum possible use. I also want to get back at my listing of the Bishops Nympton Parish Records. I just have the easier section to do now although it involves most of the fiche - the first four fiche produced over 250 pages of text (single spaced) but the next 25 will not produce nearly as much in comparison as they are all forms now for Baptisms, Marriages and Burials.
