The testator, John King, does not mention a wife or children. He does name his brothers as John King and Richard King and brother’s in law William Hall and William Dyer. He names his friends William King of Bramshill (12 miles from Upton Gray) and John Nash of Mattingly (8 miles from Upton Gray).
John King lives at Nately Scures as it is presently known. Nately Scures is five miles from Upton Gray and this road passes through Mapledurwell so continues in the same general area as the King wills already transcribed.
This area is somewhat distant from Upper Clatford (26 miles) and I am not sure now why I decided to transcribe these wills. However, once done I will not repeat them! My Thomas King died in 1762 and his children were in their 30s at that time. He married in 1728 so perhaps born between 1695 and 1705. He was a farmer according to his will. I have not learned very much about him in that instance. His farm was next to that of Thomas Collins and his daughter (Joanna (King) Blake would marry the widower Thomas Collins after she herself was widowed for fourteen years (Joseph Blake died in 1767). There is more information on the farm of Thomas Collins which may have included the farm of Thomas King.

James King, the testator, is the son of Anne King who left her will which was transcribed earlier:

Thomas Leech is identified as being buried at Mapledurwell 13 Dec 1763 (mentioned in the will below).
James Leech was buried 8 Feb 1736 at Mapledurwell.
George Leech was baptized 23 Oct 1758 son of Thomas and Mary Leech at Mapledurwell.

Also mentioned in this blog the baptisms of a son Richard 1 Dec 1760 at Bristol, a son William 3 Dec 1757 and a daughter Rebecca 21 Apr 1759 all at Bristol to William and Rebecca Blake. Only the baptism of Mary is missing. Judging by the coat of arms on the memorial table for Richard Blake husband of Anne Augusta Blake (formerly Hayward), this line uses the same coat of arms as the Blake family of Calne.
A relook at the marriage records now online for Cornish parishes does not reveal this marriage mentioned above (the marriage is listed in Ancestry as William Blake and Rebecca Blakey 12 Jun 1754 at Duloe). Find My Past, however, does list this as the marriage of William Blake and Rebecca Milles at Duloe 12 Jun 1754 (and a second reference has the surname of Rebecca as Blakey). But why not listed on the marriage records for Cornish parishes transcribed by the online parish clerks? That does appear somewhat confusing.
Who is this William Blake and how does he relate to the other members of the Ambrose Blake family in Gloucestershire or does he come down from another line also related to the Blake family at Calne?

2 of me William Blake of the City of Bristol Esquire made

Will of William Blake, Little Sodbury, Gloucestershire - Diocese of Bristol Wills on Ancestry, probated 10 Sep 1580
This rather ancient will of William Blake of Little Sodbury might fit in with the other wills in this area but will wait until I work on the Gloucester Blake family to discuss that. He mentions Edmonde Myles, no information, and William Wayde alias Blake and again no idea on relationships. His wife was Isbell and perhaps William was her son and she a widow marrying.
Otherwise I am working on the Cornwall Blake family (Landrake area) and hope to eventually publish my descendancy charts for that in the next week or so although each day I find more information to flesh out the details.

Will of William Blake, esquire, Bristol - The National Archives PROB 11/1213/141, probated 14 Jan 1792
The testator is William Blake, esquire, of Bristol, Gloucestershire. He has been married twice as mentioned in his will. One marriage is Elizabeth Slade to William Blake 15 Dec 1765 at Bristol. Is she the second wife of William Blake with his first wife being Rebecca Milles (married in 1754 at Duloe Cornwall)? The witnesses to this will were the Milles family members.

I suspect that the transcription of the birth year for Clementia Blake is incorrect or this is not the daughter of the present testator although the will reads as if she is. She is from the younger family of the present testator so likely born after 1765 which would make her about 50 when she died.
Mary Blake married John Marsh 12 Feb 1778 at St James Bristol.

John Marsh - the 1766 conveyance referred to above shows John Marsh was already occupying Porch House at the time it was conveyed to him and the other of John Stone's creditors. The list of property owners made for the 'Assessment for Relief of the Poor' in 1770 shows John Marsh as being 'for late Stones' which indicates he was still in the property previously associated with the Stone family. We understand that John was an attorney at law in Thornbury. In 1763 John married Elizabeth Hollister at Almondsbury. Elizabeth was the daughter of Luke Hollister of Almondsbury. Elizabeth died in 1775. The Bath Chronicle of 12th February 1788 shows that John Marsh attorney of Thornbury then married Mary Blake the daughter of Mr Blake a merchant of Bristol. The Bath Chronicle of 20th October 1825 says that John Marsh died that day at Biddestone House in Wiltshire in his 90th year. The notice of his death adds that he resided many years near Taunton and formerly at Thornbury. The Wiltshire connection leads us to suppose that John was related to Aaron Marsh who lived at Gloucester House in Thornbury. Aaron may have been John's son.
A rather interesting item I did not notice previously. Although it does not assist in finding anything more on William, the present testator, it does mention William. Clementia mentions her sisters Rebecca Mogg, Mary Marsh and her brother William but does not mention Richard her brother or James her full brother (the others being half-siblings).
Having read William’s will now I am still contemplating whether his line is descendant of the Calne Blake line. His properties include land in Cornwall and in Devon. He is possibly the Mr. William Blake named in the will of Richard Blake, gentleman, Bristol blogged earlier:
In the writeup on that will I have mused that William, present testator, might be of the Calne Blake family which is interesting in reflection.
There is a marriage of a William Blake to Rebecca Milles 12 Jun 1754 at Duloe, Cornwall.

Also mentioned in the blog the baptisms of Richard 1 Dec 1760 at Bristol, a son William 3 Dec 1757 and a daughter Rebecca 21 Apr 1759 all at Bristol to William and Rebecca Blake. Only the baptism of Mary is missing. Judging by the coat of arms on the memorial table for Richard Blake husband of Anne Augusta Blake (formerly Hayward), this line uses the same coat of arms as the Blake family of Calne.
Then who is William and how does he relate to the other members of the Ambrose Blake family in Gloucestershire or does he come down from another line also related to the Blake family at Calne?
Perhaps the set of Bristol Diocese Wills will assist with this set of Blake families.

I suspect that the transcription of the birth year for Clementia Blake is incorrect or this is not the daughter of the present testator although the will reads as if she is. She is from the younger family of the present testator so likely born after 1765 which would make her about 50 when she died.
Mary Blake married John Marsh 12 Feb 1778 at St James Bristol.

John Marsh - the 1766 conveyance referred to above shows John Marsh was already occupying Porch House at the time it was conveyed to him and the other of John Stone's creditors. The list of property owners made for the 'Assessment for Relief of the Poor' in 1770 shows John Marsh as being 'for late Stones' which indicates he was still in the property previously associated with the Stone family. We understand that John was an attorney at law in Thornbury. In 1763 John married Elizabeth Hollister at Almondsbury. Elizabeth was the daughter of Luke Hollister of Almondsbury. Elizabeth died in 1775. The Bath Chronicle of 12th February 1788 shows that John Marsh attorney of Thornbury then married Mary Blake the daughter of Mr Blake a merchant of Bristol. The Bath Chronicle of 20th October 1825 says that John Marsh died that day at Biddestone House in Wiltshire in his 90th year. The notice of his death adds that he resided many years near Taunton and formerly at Thornbury. The Wiltshire connection leads us to suppose that John was related to Aaron Marsh who lived at Gloucester House in Thornbury. Aaron may have been John's son.
A rather interesting item I did not notice previously. Although it does not assist in finding anything more on William, the present testator, it does mention William. Clementia mentions her sisters Rebecca Mogg, Mary Marsh and her brother William but does not mention Richard her brother or James her full brother (the others being half-siblings).
Having read William’s will now I am still contemplating whether his line is descendant of the Calne Blake line. His properties include land in Cornwall and in Devon. He is possibly the Mr. William Blake named in the will of Richard Blake, gentleman, Bristol blogged earlier:
In the writeup on that will I have mused that William, present testator, might be of the Calne Blake family which is interesting in reflection.
There is a marriage of a William Blake to Rebecca Milles 12 Jun 1754 at Duloe, Cornwall.

Also mentioned in the blog the baptisms of Richard 1 Dec 1760 at Bristol, a son William 3 Dec 1757 and a daughter Rebecca 21 Apr 1759 all at Bristol to William and Rebecca Blake. Only the baptism of Mary is missing. Judging by the coat of arms on the memorial table for Richard Blake husband of Anne Augusta Blake (formerly Hayward), this line uses the same coat of arms as the Blake family of Calne.
Then who is William and how does he relate to the other members of the Ambrose Blake family in Gloucestershire or does he come down from another line also related to the Blake family at Calne?
Perhaps the set of Bristol Diocese Wills will assist with this set of Blake families.

Will of James Blake of Langport, Somerset - The National Archives PROB 11/2233/423, probated 16 Jun 1856
James Blake, testator, lives at Langport and there was a Blake family at Langport earlier as can be seen from a later will. Were they related? That is a mystery for the moment. James had a large family and they continued to live at Langport into the mid 1900s. There is a set of genealogical notes to go with the National Archives record below that I may order one of these days.

On Find my past James Dyer Blake was baptized 29 Jun 1823 the son of James and Charlotte Blake. Father was a book keeper at Dolphin Inn, Honiton. From Free BMD James Dyer Blake died jun quarter 1902 at the age of 78 years so was born circa 1824. He died at Langport. He was married twice with the second marriage sep quarter 1859 to Caroline Culverwell of Wiveliscombe. The first marriage was December quarter 1849 before his father wrote his will.
On the 1901 Census James Dyer Blake is a Wine Merchant, 77 years of age born at Honiton, married to Caroline 64 years of age born at Colyton, Devon with children Walter J 39 , John C 38, Alfred 33, Mary Anna 30 and Alice Caroline 23 all born at Langport.
On the 1891 census James Dyer Blake is a Wine Merchant 67 years of age, wife Caroline, sons Walter J, John C, Alfred and daughters Emily 25, Mary A and Alice C.
On the 1881 census James Dyer Bake ris a wine merchant with his wife Caroline and sons Walter J, John C, Alfred and daughters Emily, Mary A and Alice C.
On the 1871 census James Dyer Blake is a wine merchant with wife Caroline and Caroline’s aunt Elizabeth 64 years. No children present (perhaps the boys are at school and Emily away and the rest to be born. They are at Clevedon in Bedminster RD actually which is interesting.
On the 1861 census James Dyer Blake is a wine and spirits merchant at Langport with his wife Caroline and his mother Charlotte 66 years of age and she was born at Halse. Aunt Betsy Dyer is also with them. No children.
On the 1851 census at Langport, James Blake (testator) is 53 years of age and is an Innkeeper and Wine Merchant. Born at Honiton Devon and his wife Charlotte is 55 years of age and born at Kitisford Somerset. With them is their son James Dyer Blake a widower 28 years of age born at Honiton and Betsy Dyer sister in law (57) of James Blake.
On the 1841 census at Langport Eastover, James Blake is a wine manufacturer and publican not born in Somerset, his wife Charlotte born in Somerset, his son James 15 not born in Somerset, his son John 10 born in Somerset, Betsey Dyer 75, independent, Mary Dyer 35 independent and both born in Somerset. Perhaps Betsey Dyer on this census is the mother of Charlotte.
The Honiton Tithe Apportionment lists Richard and John Blake as occupiers of the Dolphin Inn and Garden as part of the Manor of Honiton. This particular survey would have occurred after 1836 and probably before 1848 and this James is known to be at the Dolphin Inn at the time of the baptism of his son James Dyer Blake. Checking the census there is a Richard Blake Innkeeper of the Dolphin Hotel 70 years of age and listed with him Richard Blake 35 years of age both born in Devon. Is this the father of James the testator? There is a marriage of Richard Blake and Jane Denner 17 Feb 1795 at Honiton, Devon on Find my past. On the Family Search website there is the birth of James Blake to Richard and Jane and baptism 27 Dec 1797 at Honiton on Otter, Devon, England.

This Blake family was said to be originally from Gittisham, Devon and they have seven children listed including a Thomas Michel Blake baptized 2 May 1756 and a William Blake baptized 28 May 1758. Richard, likely father of James was 70 on the 1841 census so born circa 1771. This would appear to be too short a time interval for these two sons to be the father of Richard. Interesting though to find this information and I shall have to see what I can find out about the Blake family at Gittisham. Gittisham is about three miles from Honiton.

1 This is the last Will and Testament
2 of me James Blake of Langport in the County of Somerset I give devise and
3 bequeath All my Real and Personal Estate whatsoever unto my son James Dyer
4 Blake Upon the trusts following that is to say Upon trust when and as can most
5 conveniently be done to convert the same into money and thereout in the first place
6 to pay to my Wife Charlotte the sum of five hundred pounds secured to her by my
7 Marriage Settlement and to invest the residue thereof in such real or personal secu-
8 rities as he shall think fit and to stand possessed of the interest dividends and produce
9 thereof Upon trust during the lifetime of my said Wife to pay to her the annual sum
10 of one hundred pounds and to divide the residue of such interest dividends and produce
11 equally between and amongst himself and my two sons Richard and John and my
12 daughter Charlotte And from and immediately after the decease of my said Wife to
13 stand possessed of the said monies or of the securities on which the same shall be
14 then invested Upon trust to divide the same equally between and amongst himself
15 and my said two sons Richard and John and my daughter Charlotte And I hereby
16 declare that if my said son James Dyer Blake thinks proper to carry on my business
17 of a Wine and Spirit Merchant it shall be lawful for him to retain in his hands a
18 sufficient portion of my personal estate for the purpose of carrying on such business
19 paying therefore a reasonable rate of interest And I hereby appoint the said James
20 Dyer Blake to be the sole Executor of this my Will And I declare that the receipt
21 in writing of the said James Dyer Blake for any trust monies shall discharge the person

On Find my past James Dyer Blake was baptized 29 Jun 1823 the son of James and Charlotte Blake. Father was a book keeper at Dolphin Inn, Honiton. From Free BMD James Dyer Blake died jun quarter 1902 at the age of 78 years so was born circa 1824. He died at Langport. He was married twice with the second marriage sep quarter 1859 to Caroline Culverwell of Wiveliscombe. The first marriage was December quarter 1849 before his father wrote his will.
On the 1901 Census James Dyer Blake is a Wine Merchant, 77 years of age born at Honiton, married to Caroline 64 years of age born at Colyton, Devon with children Walter J 39 , John C 38, Alfred 33, Mary Anna 30 and Alice Caroline 23 all born at Langport.
On the 1891 census James Dyer Blake is a Wine Merchant 67 years of age, wife Caroline, sons Walter J, John C, Alfred and daughters Emily 25, Mary A and Alice C.
On the 1881 census James Dyer Bake ris a wine merchant with his wife Caroline and sons Walter J, John C, Alfred and daughters Emily, Mary A and Alice C.
On the 1871 census James Dyer Blake is a wine merchant with wife Caroline and Caroline’s aunt Elizabeth 64 years. No children present (perhaps the boys are at school and Emily away and the rest to be born. They are at Clevedon in Bedminster RD actually which is interesting.
On the 1861 census James Dyer Blake is a wine and spirits merchant at Langport with his wife Caroline and his mother Charlotte 66 years of age and she was born at Halse. Aunt Betsy Dyer is also with them. No children.
On the 1851 census at Langport, James Blake (testator) is 53 years of age and is an Innkeeper and Wine Merchant. Born at Honiton Devon and his wife Charlotte is 55 years of age and born at Kitisford Somerset. With them is their son James Dyer Blake a widower 28 years of age born at Honiton and Betsy Dyer sister in law (57) of James Blake.
On the 1841 census at Langport Eastover, James Blake is a wine manufacturer and publican not born in Somerset, his wife Charlotte born in Somerset, his son James 15 not born in Somerset, his son John 10 born in Somerset, Betsey Dyer 75, independent, Mary Dyer 35 independent and both born in Somerset. Perhaps Betsey Dyer on this census is the mother of Charlotte.
The Honiton Tithe Apportionment lists Richard and John Blake as occupiers of the Dolphin Inn and Garden as part of the Manor of Honiton. This particular survey would have occurred after 1836 and probably before 1848 and this James is known to be at the Dolphin Inn at the time of the baptism of his son James Dyer Blake. Checking the census there is a Richard Blake Innkeeper of the Dolphin Hotel 70 years of age and listed with him Richard Blake 35 years of age both born in Devon. Is this the father of James the testator? There is a marriage of Richard Blake and Jane Denner 17 Feb 1795 at Honiton, Devon on Find my past. On the Family Search website there is the birth of James Blake to Richard and Jane and baptism 27 Dec 1797 at Honiton on Otter, Devon, England.
