The most recent Lauzon marriage was in Ontario with Ontario Registration number 016425 between Télésphore Lauzon bachelor of 19 years of age, Roman Catholic living at Sturgeon Falls and the son of Augustine Lauzon labourer and Hélèna Brunet marrying Dora Lanoie spinster of 19 years Roman Catholic living at Sturgeon Falls and the daughter of Félix Lanoie labourer and Céline Rhéaume on the 23rd day of May 1919 at Sturgeon Falls and the priest present at the ceremony was the Reverend Charles Langlois with witnesses Ajugustine Lauzon of Sturgeon Falls and Félix Lanoie also of Sturgeon Falls with registration of the marriage on the 30th of May 1910 by the Reverend Charles Langlois at Sturgeon Falls, Ontario.
The parents of Télésphore being thus identified as Augustin Lauzon and Hélène Brunet who were themselves married at Notre Dame de la Salette in Papineau 17 Sep 1889.

Olive Richer married François Audet dit Lapointe 26 Feb 1852 at St Hermas and her parents were identified in the marriage lines as Bernard Richer dit Louveteau and Adelaide Proulx who were themselves married 30 Jan 1826 at St Benoit.

At this point I do find the marriage of François Richer in Tanguay but it is to Marie-Anne Brunet. I think the priest has perhaps made an error recording the maiden name of the mother of Paul as she is referred to as Marianne Brunet in his baptism (to be transcribed next research day). The marriage of François Richer and Marie-Anne Brunet took place 18 Oct 1723 at St Laurent. Again there does appear to be an error as François is listed with a second wife Marie-Joseph LeNormand but the records show that Marie-Joseph LeNormand married Pierre Richer. The parents of François Richer were Jacques Richer dit Louveteau and Marie Joffrion who were married 7 Apr 1698 at Notre Dame (Montréal). Jacques was born in France and hence the emigrant ancestor and Generation 1.
François Richer dit Louveteau married to Marie-Anne Brunet is Generation 2. The present generation is also descended from Marie Joseph Richer (sister to François) who married Pierre Plouphe 11 Jan 1723 at St Laurent and is also Generation 2.
Paul Richer dit Louveteau married to Marie-Cecile Brisebois is Generation 3.
Paul Richer dit Louveteau married to Marie Jammé dite Carrière is Generation 4.
Bernard Richer dit Louveteau married to Adelaide Proulx is Generation 5.

Brunet family
Hélèna Brunet married Augustin Lauzon 17 Sep 1889 at Notre Dame de la Salette, Papineau. She was baptized 16 Jul 1864 at Ste Adèle, Terrebonne the daughter of Jean Baptiste Brunet and Olive (Olivine) Constantineau. Another long puzzle ensued with this family. I found their marriage 24 Jan 1859 at Ste Adèle and the christening of Jean Baptiste Brunet 19 Dec 1836 at Ste Scholastique, Deux-Montagnes.
My difficulties with the Constantineau family I will share with my blog in the future as I work my way back to the next generation.
Jean Baptiste Brunet baptized 19 Dec 1836 was the son of Jean Baptiste Brunet and Louise Brunet dite Lelang. At this point I had two Brunet lines to trace and I was initially unsure about dit names. Were they a different name? were they a locational name? were they related? As I worked my way back I was to learn more about dit names which was very helpful. This was my first real foray into dit names at the time.
Looking at Jean Baptiste Brunet and he was baptized 24 May 1815 at St Benoit the son of François Brunet and Marie Angélique Bolne who themselves were married 9 Feb 1805 at Ste Geneviève (Pierrefonds). I decided to check Tanguay to see what sort of answers he had for the Brunet family. He does not have the marriage of François and Marie Angélique. Looking at the marriage lines for this couple I found that the parents of François were Michel Brunet and Geneviève Latour who were married 8 Feb 1773 at Ste Geneviève (Pierrefonds). This marriage was also not recorded in Tanguay. Moving back another generation the parents of Michel Brunet were François Brunet and Françoise Amable Proulx who were married 14 Nov 1735 at Pointe Claire. This is one of the small errors that I have found in Tanguay; he has the marriage as after 1738 but does not offer a month and day or a place. The parents of François were listed as Thomas Brunet and Catherine Cecire and they married 17 Oct 1701 at Lachine. Pulling up the marriage of Thomas Brunet and Catherine Cecire the parents of Thomas were listed as Pierre Brunet and Marie Bouché. Tanguay has the wife of Pierre Brunet as Marie Catherine Cottin (Fille du Rois). Finding this marriage in Ancestry was quite straightforward. But when I located the baptism of Thomas 19 Feb 1678 at Notre-Dame, Québec the mother was listed as Marie d'Arras but in the margin is written the name Cottin. Why does the marriage of Thomas list his mother as Marie Bouché? I shall investigate that the next time I work on the Brunet family. Pierre was the emigrant and so is Generation 1.

Joseph Télésphore Augustin Lauzon was baptized 11 May 1891 at Notre Dame de la Salette in Papineau and the son of Augustin Lauzon and Hélèna Brunet who were married 17 Sep 1889 at Notre Dame de la Salette. Télésphore married Mary Dora Lanoie 23 May 1910 at Sturgeon Falls.
Augustin Lauzon was baptized 21 Oct 1865 at St Grégoire de Nazianze in Buckingham and the son of Joseph Lauzon and Rosalie Thibaut. Joseph and Rosalie were married 26 Nov 1860 at St Grégoire de Nazianze.
Joseph was the son of Joseph Augustin Lauzon and Clémence Chaumont who were themselves married 24 Feb 1829 at Ste Anne des Plaines, Terrebonne. Joseph died 18 Mar 1893 at Ottawa ON.
Joseph Augustin Lauzon was born at Terrebonne (baptism to be found) and the son of Joseph Lauzon and Marie Catherine Fontigney dite St Jean. Joseph and Marie Catherine were married 30 Jul 1781 at Terrebonne. Tanguay also verifies the marriage of Joseph Augustin and Marie Catherine in 1781 and then the father of Joseph Augustin as Gilles Lauzon married to Marie Anne Viau dit Lesperance. This Gilles' parents were Gilles Lauzon and Marie Archambault who married 27 Nov 1656 at Montréal. Gilles was born in France and so he is Generation 1 in New France.

Audet dit Lapointe Family
Léa Lapointe married to Jean Baptiste Neveu proved to be just as difficult as Jean Baptiste Neveu had been initially. I decided to look at her siblings from the 1871 Census. Olive Lapointe is a widow and living with her are four children: Cordelia 10, Léa 8, Hyacinthe 6 and Elie 3. In 1881 again Olive Lapointe is listed with Hyacinthe and Elie. A stroke of good luck finds Olive Richer (mother in law) living with Jean Baptiste Neveu and Léa Neveu on the 1901 Census. At St Hermas, Deux Montagnes in the Church of St Jerome, Olive Richer married François Audet. In both cases they were widowed but I managed to find their first marriages:
Olive Richer married Jean Baptiste Brunet 4 Nov 1842 at St Jerome and her parents were Bernard Richer and Adelaide Proulx.
François Audet dit Lapointe married Ursule Richer 19 July 1835 and his parents were Pierre Audet dit Lapointe and Geneviève Plouff.
Léa's parents were then François dit Lapointe and Olive Richer. It was a round about way to get around not having the marriage registration for Léa Lapointe and Jean Baptiste Neveu.
Looking at the Audet family in Tanguay, I did discover that Audet-Lapointe was included in his charting. However the marriage of Pierre and Geneviève was not listed. The marriage of Pierre Audet and Geneviève Plouff was celebrated at St Martin in Laval 29 Jan 1793.
Parents of Pierre Audet were Jean François Audet and Thérèse Létourneau and this marriage is listed in Tanguay 24 Jan 1763. It is at this point that I will start to pull the marriage registration scan. Using Tanguay the father of François was also François and he married Marie Madeleine Baillargeon 19 Nov 1736 at St Laurent, Ile d'Orléans. The father of this François was again François Audet dit Lapointe married to Marguerite Bernard 3 Jun 1709 at St Laurent. The father of François was Nicolas Audet married to Madelaine Després 15 Sep 1670 at Ste Famille, Ile d'Orléans. Nicolas was born in France and is the emigrant ancestor, Madelaine was a Fille du Rois.
I can now separate the images that I have into folders with Léa Lapointe being Generation 7.
As it turns out, there are two lines of descent from Nicolas Audet with the second being from his son Jean Baptiste Audet (Odet) married to Marie Louise Godbout 16 Apr 1708 at St Laurent. Their daughter Marie Magdaleine Audet married Jacques Asselin 12 Nov 1725 at St Jean, Ile d'Orléans. This information is recorded in Tanguay and will eventually be revisited when I look at the Asselin family. Marie Magdaleine Audet is Generation 3.
My task the next day that I look at the Audet dit Lapointe family will be to collect the marriage, baptismal and burial registrations.

Blake Family One Name Study and Bédard
With my membership in the Guild of One Name Studies comes the perk of Marriage Challenges. These are very handy especially with the price of a marriage registration certificate being now nine pounds sterling. The marriages help to establish the family lines in the 1800s and are an absolute must in any family study. I am slowly working away on the 30,000 Blake marriages in England matching up couples where possible but individual marriage challenges do this for me automatically as the data is pulled from the original parish registers and civil registers. I searched out my marriages for two today and I had already prepared my excel file for both of them so it was an easy transfer. I hadn't matched up all the marriages using the census so I proceeded to do that and it is a lengthy task to do 35 marriages working through FreeBMD and the census.
I am also working on the The Blake Newsletter and it was written by Barrie Blake this time. I am just adding or revising a couple of items - we do each others and that works very well as it is really difficult to proofread your own work.
It is certainly nice to be settling back into regular research. I need to now plan my research time for the French Canadian lines of our son in law. I have allotted one hour per day (it can easily run to two hours because of the placement) to work on each of his 32 3x great grandparents. This may seem like a lot but indeed I could just as easily of gone back to the 6x great grandparents and worked on all of them as well. It is a consideration on my part as I have assigned 28 to their own individual day and then I have placed two on the weekends where it works otherwise I have three in one day on a weekday because the calendar doesn't have an exact number of days per month. My own lines I have rotating on an eight week basis - five to a week but I do not have nearly as many of my 4x great grandparents covered in my research!

I am considering doing a second month which would include Patry, Fournier dit Larose, Bénoit dit Vaillacourt, Doutre, Monestier, Piché, Richer, Hémard dit Poitvin, Groux, Bernard dit Blondin, Lacroix, Thibaut, Constantineau, Boileau, Payette dit St-Amour, Sarrazin, Demers, Blais, Racicot, Lamarque dit Matthieu, Chantal, Desloges dit Poirier, Monette dit Boiseux, Creujeur (Kruger), St-Denis, Legault, D'Amour, Campeau, and Douras (Douvas). This would then take me back to the 4x great grandparents and mostly in the early 1800s/late 1700s. I have already taken his lines back to early New France and to the parents in France but I have not yet collected all the registrations. I would also like to now seek out the notary records and other records that might be at Library and Archives Canada which would give a fuller picture of these families.
I shall follow approximately the same process each day. First I will check to make sure I have all the registrations from Ancestry or the LDS website as an image in the family folder. Then within each folder I shall arrange them by generation from the emigrant. If I eventually find the registrations for these families in France then I shall simply alter the arabic to a roman numeral with the roman numerals marking the generations back from the emigrant and the parents being the I generation. I shall then check Tanguay to see if what I have also blends in with what he has (I started to use Tanguay about a year after I started). In the cases where I am still in the late 1700s, Tanguay is great to help you look at the lines going back to the emigrant. I shall also have a look at Ancestry family trees and World Connect. I will also search the Library and Archives Canada website to note items that I wish to check on my next visit.
Process:
I am also working on the The Blake Newsletter and it was written by Barrie Blake this time. I am just adding or revising a couple of items - we do each others and that works very well as it is really difficult to proofread your own work.
It is certainly nice to be settling back into regular research. I need to now plan my research time for the French Canadian lines of our son in law. I have allotted one hour per day (it can easily run to two hours because of the placement) to work on each of his 32 3x great grandparents. This may seem like a lot but indeed I could just as easily of gone back to the 6x great grandparents and worked on all of them as well. It is a consideration on my part as I have assigned 28 to their own individual day and then I have placed two on the weekends where it works otherwise I have three in one day on a weekday because the calendar doesn't have an exact number of days per month. My own lines I have rotating on an eight week basis - five to a week but I do not have nearly as many of my 4x great grandparents covered in my research!
I will be working on Bédard, Whélan, Matte, Gagnon, Mourier, Bertrand, Nepveu, Audet dit Lapointe, Grégoire, Séguin dit Ladéroute, Tremblay, Labelle, Lauzon, Brunet, Lanoie, Rhéaume, Dumoulin, Renaud, Larente dit Vinet, Cadieux, Clément, Charlebois, Pomainville, Pilon, Prévost, Desjardins, Deschatelets, Quesnel, St-Jean, Lavigne, Chénier and Racine. I am considering doing a second month which would include Patry, Fournier dit Larose, Bénoit dit Vaillacourt, Doutre, Monestier, Piché, Richer, Hémard dit Poitvin, Groux, Bernard dit Blondin, Lacroix, Thibaut, Constantineau, Boileau, Payette dit St-Amour, Sarrazin, Demers, Blais, Racicot, Lamarque dit Matthieu, Chantal, Desloges dit Poirier, Monette dit Boiseux, Creujeur (Kruger), St-Denis, Legault, D'Amour, Campeau, and Douras (Douvas). This would then take me back to the 4x great grandparents and mostly in the early 1800s/late 1700s. I have already taken his lines back to early New France and to the parents in France but I have not yet collected all the registrations. Baune-Bolne and Prou-Proulx families
Francoise Monpetit married Louis Campeau, and the parents of Francoise Monpetit were Pierre Monpetit and Louise Elizabeth Brisebois who married 7 Jan 1783 at Pointe-Claire. Their parents were listed on their marriage lines.
Parents of Pierre Monpetit were Joseph Monpetit and Marie Anne Hunos and they were married 26 Jan 1756 at Ste Anne de Bellevue. Their marriage lines included the names of their parents.
Parents of Louise Elizabeth Brisebois were Antoine Brisebois and Francoise Baune and they were married 7 Jan 1760 at Pointe-Claire. Their marriage lines included the names of their parents.
Parents of Antoine Brisebois were René Brisebois and Angélique Lanthier and they were married 28 May 1725 at Pointe-Claire

Aubain-Aubin family
Working on the Aubain family at St Benoit, I have Catherine's baptism 26 Sep 1804 at St Benoit and her marriage to Jacques Neveu 11 Aug 1835 also at St Benoit. The marriage registration for this couple shows her parents names and that Jacques Neveu was the widower of Catherine Drouin. Pulling up the marriage of Jacques Neveu and Catherine Drouin 5 Oct 1818 reveals his parents names.
Parents of Jacques Neveu were: Augustin Neveu and Marie Citoleux who were themselves married 6 Jul 1788 at Ste Geneviève.
Parents of Catherine Aubain were: Toussaint Aubain and Céleste Legault dite Delaurier who were themselves married 22 Sep 1794 at St Eustache. Their parents were listed on the marriage lines.
Parents of Toussaint Aubain were: Louis Amable Aubin and Marie Angelique Varrin dite Lapistolle. They were married 8 Jun 1761 at Longueuil. Their parents were listed on the marriage lines (below).

Parents of Réne Aubin were André Aubin and Marie Nevine who married in France and Réne was also baptized in France.
Parents of Françoise Bigras were: François Bigras and Marie Brunet who were married 31 Aug 1693 at Montréal.
The parents of François Bigras were Mathurin Bigras and Catherine Parenteau who were married in France and did not come to New France.
The parents of Marie Brunet were Mathieu-Michel Brunet dit Letang and Marie Blanchard who married 10 Nov 1667 at Notre-Dame, Québec. They were both both born in France. This is the second child of this couple in the family tree. Her older sister Marie-Anne married Antoine Pilon 10 Jan 1689 at Montréal. I still need to verify the Pilon family tree though so will keep that thought on the side for the moment.

Brunet family
Today I decided to work on the Brunet family today. I found the marriage of Augustin Lauzon and Hélèna Brunet 17 Sep 1889 at Notre Dame de la Salette, Papineau, Québec. I know from the baptism and marriage of their son that these are the correct names for his parents. First problem that I encountered was not finding a death or burial for them. I know that they are on the census in 1911 at Sturgeon Falls Nipissing. This census also gave me their month and date of birth which let me find their baptisms (his at St Grégoire in Buckingham, hers at St Adèle, Terrebone) and verify their parents names having both their names from the marriage registration and baptisms. The only difference I found was in the date of birth on the census for Hélèna was out by four years.

French Canadian ancestry - Lauzon
I had a very successful day looking at the Lauzon family and discovered a tree online which I shall pursue with the actual records. I tend to do genealogy from the respect of what others have done before me. The Lauzon family has been quite researched I have discovered with at least five distinct trees online tracing back to the founding couple Pierre Lauzon and Anne Boivin. The line I am looking at descends through their son Gilles and Marie Archambault, their son Gilles and Marie-Anne Grolx, their son Gilles and Marie Anne Viau dit Lesperance, their son Joseph and Marie Catherine Fontigney dite St Jean. This marriage I have found on Drouin and was the point that I was at in my research yesterday when I found the earlier information where I now need to locate the records. I have the marriage for Augustin (son of Joseph and Marie Catherine) who married Clemence Chaumont to their son Joseph married to Rosalie Thibaut. Their son Augustin married Hélèna Brunet at Notre Dame de la Salette, Papineau and their eldest son Joseph Telesphore Augustin Lauzon married Dora Lanoie at Sturgeon Falls in 1910. I wondered if this was correct but my good fortune yesterday was to find Augustin and Hélèna at Sturgeon Falls on the 1901 census so this marriage is now working for the tree.
I now have all the information for the tree for the Lauzon family back nine generations (chart is nine generations) once I find all the records before the marriage of Joseph Lauzon and Marie Catherine Fontigney dite St Jean. I would also like to find all the baptisms and burials before I actually give the chart away. I am still lacking information on some of the feeder lines into this family Brunet, Constantineau, Deguire dit LaRose, Brunet dit Lalang, Lanoie, Boileau, Rhéaume, and St Armour. For the first four I need two generations and for the next four I need three generations. So still quite a bit of work.
That still leaves me with three other main lines (Grégoire, Bédard and Mourier). I already know the Mourier line will be more difficult because the furtherest back member that I have traced thus far was born in France in 1845 (although still four generations have been born in Canada!). Amazingly in this entire family that I have researched thus far this is the only individual not born in Canada until we get back into the 1600s (earliest baptism thus far is 1639). An amazing number of French Canadian families (no duplicates thus far) is part of this entire tree. I am putting the emphasis on this research now because of the new baby coming in the spring (our daughter's first niece or nephew, her husband's brother's child). It would be so nice to have a chart all ready for the baby.

Back to Genealogy
Today I want to work on the French Canadian ancestry of our son-in-law. I have already been working on the parents of his paternal grandmother seeking out their baptisms and I have been successful. I am hoping that if there is an error she will spot it as she looks over any papers she might have for her family. I want to complete as much of the chart as possible and at the moment I only go back to her 2x great grandparents and the chart has room back to her 5x great grandparents. But I shall work back by generation collecting baptism/birth, marriage and burial/death records from Drouin on Ancestry. I also want to go to Library and Archives Canada to check out the directories for the families (and any other information that might be helpful). I will look at all the published histories for any of these families. So far I am looking at Grégoire, Lauzon, Tremblay, Lanoie, Rheaume, Brunet, Labelle, Séguin, Potvin, Giroux, Blondin, Lacroix, Thibaut, Constantineau, Boileau, St Amour and that is just back to the 2x great grandparents.
A mystery for me is their path and it lead to questions in my mind. The families are in the western area of Québec opposite Ottawa ON and then a movement up to Sturgeon Falls and then back again to Ottawa for one line and the other line comes immediately to the Embrun area. Am I right with the Sturgeon Falls families? I continue to look for proof but it is not impossible for one young man to travel from Papineauville to Sturgeon Falls I do not think but I would like more proof than just the baptisms and marriages. The burials are past the date of record in Ancestry so I will need to try and find that information another way.
Today I shall move back another generation looking for information that I didn't find earlier. As I move back though I have already found baptisms/marriages and burials for a number of the ancestors.
