My optometrist has set me up for another referral so will wait to see on that.
I could have continued with an ophthalmologist after Dr Sullivan went into surgery but I was working at the hospital and having to book an appointment even before my current appointment was very difficult (I am not one to take off days when I work. I understand people who do find that necessary but it just isn't me.) I left my job at the hospital with a couple of months of sick leave. The optometrist was just there close and suited me very well. I decided to leave the opthalmologists for the people who had newer eye problems like glaucoma which I do not have or macular degeneration which I do not have and save myself trying to set up appointments when my life was very busy with my husband's many activities, my children and work. I shouldn't have to explain that; optometrists do a great job. They have filled a niche in the medical system. They have always referred me to a specialist when a problem occurred which needed their expertise.
I can not see why this particular happening had to occur when I have such narrow windows for having assistance which I explained (six months ahead). I do not like to be a needy patient; preferring basically to look after myself. My godmother was Head Nurse of the Cancer Section in my home town and I learned a great deal from her in terms of medicine. She really wanted me to go into medicine but my interest was only in going to Africa as a medical doctor. Instead I got married, had two children and now I need cataract surgery. She was happy for me but I know she really wanted me to go into medicine. She would be proud to see that my daughter did, my nephew did and my niece did. She was my mother's best friend and I enjoyed having her as my godmother.
But I do think that we need to be very cautious about accepting physicians from foreign countries and let them go immediately to work. They need to train in our system, meet our patients under a controlled situation and learn to understand all Canadians. I continue being opposed to accepting them without retraining.
Anyway hopefully soon resolved and perhaps this person they have referred me to has some appointments between December 18 and Christmas - I can do any day any time.
I do want the OHIP lens as my glasses change a little here and there. I do have strabismus in both eyes and astigmatism in both eyes. It worked for my Dad fourty years ago and the work I want to be able to continue with involves a lot of reading and writing (things that he did). I do not need an expensive lens that I may have to then make adjustments. I prefer to wear glasses I have worn glasses since I was one year old.
Anyway we will see. Working on the Siderfin Book.
At 1:00 I am going to a prayer service and I am sure we will remember the Palestinians, the Israelis, and the Ukrainians. They are all much in my thoughts.
