William-Line
27. Robert 6 Siderfin (Robert 5, William 4, Robert 3, William 2, John 1) was born circa early 1630s, died in 1688, aged about 58[1], and was buried 13 Oct 1688 in Selworthy, Somerset, England[2].
Appears on the Protestation Returns with his father at Timberscombe. Young to be signing[3] but it was perhaps to show support of the Siderfin family for the King. Robert 6 married Elizabeth (unknown)[4]. Elizabeth (unknown) Siderfin buried 7 Nov 1691 in Selworthy, Somerset, England[5].
Probate of will of Robert 6 Siderfin the elder of East Linch, Timberscombe, yeoman; inventory attached (£197/12/-), 3 Oct. 1688, pr. 22 Jul. 1689 (1 document).[6]
The actual documents with the land records DD/MAL/14/1 included the will, probate, and inventory (five images)[7]. I did transcribe the entire set of documents (90 lines in total). The will itself simply transferred property from Robert 6 Siderfin the elder to his son William 7 Siderfin along with any inventoried items that remained both moveable and immoveable in the property of this Robert 6 Siderfin. He does not mention his other son Robert 7 (Robert 6, Robert 5, William 4, Robert 3, William 2, John 1) or his daughter Elizabeth 7 (Robert 6, Robert 5, William 4, Robert 3, William 2, John 1) in his will. He does not mention his wife in the will. Estimated by me that he would be around 57 years of age when he died[8]. Neither a baptism nor a marriage were found for this Robert 6 Siderfin but his burial is likely the 13 October 1688 at Selworthy. The land which was bequeathed to his son William 6 was in the Parish of Luxburough although this son lived at Minehead at least from the date of his marriage onward. There is a Robert Siderfin[9] who witnessed the will and is mentioned in the Inventory along with William 7 Siderfin implying that they were brothers but not actually stating that. But the line is such that the implication appears to be complete in its context. Just a little stronger proof than all the actual documents mentioning William 7 Siderfin as a son of Robert 6 Siderfin the elder of East Linch and Timberscombe. I will not add in the transcript as it requires filling in more documents and getting permission so will simply add in the overall gist of the document contents.

James Sanders has Robert 5 (red square) as b 1620 and d 1675, actually he was baptized in 1611 and is mentioned in his mother Christian’s will along with his son Robert 6 (I estimate a birth year for this Robert circa early 1630s). Fortunately the land records show that Robert 5 Siderfin at East Linch and Timberscombe (Robert 5 son of William 4 and Christian) and his son Robert 6 were at East Linch and Timberscombe on the Protestation Returns 1641 (Robert 6 would have been a little young but sometimes children younger than 18 did sign the Return. Then quite clearly in the land records Robert 6 (the son of Robert 5) has two sons Robert 7 and William 7 with William 7 shown on the chart above incorrectly as sons of John of Wootton Courtney (who was a son of Robert 4 (Robert 3, William 2, John 1) the brother of William 4 (married to Christian Webber)). This does, I feel, clarify the lineage of this particular set of Robert Siderfin males. With Robert 7 being the father of Robert 8 and Walter 8 both linked to a father John on the chart which is incorrect as will be shown.

28. Wilmot 6 Siderfin (Robert 5, William 4, Robert 3, William 2, John 1). Mentioned in her Grandmother Christian (Webber) Sidderfin’s will, dated 23 Nov 1644.[17]
29. John 6 Siderfin (Robert 5, William 4, Robert 3, William 2, John 1). Mentioned in his Grandmother Christian (Webber) Sidderfin’s will, dated 23 Nov 1644.[18] Born circa mid to latter 1630s.
John 6 (Robert 5, William 4, Robert 3, William 2, John 1) is the younger son of Robert 5 Siderfin the elder likely born in the 1630s but after his brother Robert 6 since Robert 6 is found on the Protestation Returns 1641. Both boys and their sister Wilmot are mentioned by their grandmother Christian Siderfin in her will dated 23 Nov 1644. Robert 5 and Robert 6 appear on the Protestation Returns as Robert Siderfin the elder and Robert Siderfin the younger at East Linch (son and grandson of Christian Webber), Timberscombe. Since the grandmother names Robert first, Wilmot second and John third in her will it is likely that he is the youngest. He does not stand to inherit land and will likely take up an occupation if his brother survives to inherit. With that in mind and looking at the Pedigree Chart which James Sanders produced but did not include the children of Robert 5 (William 4, Robert 3, William 2, John 1) one notes that there is a John said to be born in 1614 and living at Wootton Courtney.

Enclosed in a red box, John Siderfin is said to be the son of Robert 4 (Robert 3, William 2, John 1) and Priscilla Siderfin. The marriage lines for this Robert 4 have his wife named Ursula Webber[19]. According to the Minehead Parish Registers this couple baptized three children at Minehead – Wilmot 1614, Robert 1616, and John 1619.
I believe that this John is actually John 6 (Robert 5, William 4, Robert 3, William 2, John 1) and James Sanders has simply put him into the wrong family. There are no baptismal records for Robert 6 or Wilmot 6 or John 6 although they are mentioned in their Grandmother’s will[20]. No marriage located for John 6. The name of his wife missing in the baptismal certificate for John 7.

Christian 6 Siderfin married John Worth on 9 May 1682 in Luxburough, Somerset, England. John was born Wychanger, Somerset, England and died in 1716, aged 54[35]. Marriage Registration reads Christian Siderfin, marriage date 09 May 1682, Luxborough, Somerset, John Worth[36]

This is one of the images that I took when we visited the Allen County Public Library in Illinois, USA in 2009. The chart above on the left is part of the William-Line namely Christian 6 (Thomas 5, William 4, Robert 3, William 2, John 1) married to John Worth and two of her three half-siblings and including the children of the Worth-Siderfin[38] marriage in the William-Line.

+ 52 F iii. Cecilia Worth was born in 1701 with the Somerset Baptismal Index listing Cecilia Worth baptized 25 Sep 1701 at Luccombe or Luckham daughter of John Worth (mother not listed)[49]. There is a record of a Cecilia Worth buried 18 Oct 1701 at Luccombe or Luckham daughter of John Worth[50].
The mother of Christian married to John Worth left her will dated 1689 and she lists grandchildren Christian, Susanna, Mary and Sarah. I was unable to verify some of the information in the Chart that James Sanders produced (hence I have altered it) for the children of John and Christian (Siderfin) Worth nor was I able to locate James Sanders’ source for some of the data.
Mary Siderfin, of Luxborough, Somerset, widow. Will dated Nov 19, 1689, proved Oct 10, 1693 [Taunton Registry] My grandchild Susanna Worth, 100 pounds at age of 21. Her sister, a silver tankard and gold ring. My grandchild Christian Worth, 200 pounds at age of 21. My grandchildren, Mary Worth and Sarah Worth, 100 pounds each. Residue to my daughter Christian Worth.[51]
In 1699 the will of Mary Worth[52], the mother of John Worth, was proved:
“Wychanger”. Mrs. Mary Worth, will proved, 1699[53] by John Worth, her son. To her daughter, Sarah Worth, she gave all her interest "in a messuage known as Broadmead in Selworthy," also certain chests "standing in the gallery and hall chamber at, Witchanger" including the "great chist" in the gallery " on which her harpsicords stand." she gave a piece of gold of 20s to her daughter in lawe Christian[54] wife of her son John Worth, and for legacies to her fower grandchildren, daughters of her said son, John Worth, viz., to Christian and Mary £5 apiece, and unto Susannah and Sarah £3 apiece, to their brother, Thomas Worth her grandson, she bequeathed her "silver belle."[55]
All of the children named in both wills were under the age of 21 years in 1689 and 1699. Mary Worth’s will mentions four grandchildren but there are five listed by her and this would appear to help verify the data above for the children of John Worth and Christian (Siderfin) Worth.
Robert-Line
39. Robert 6 Siderfin (John 5, Robert 4, Robert 3, William 2, John 1) was born on 3 Aug 1658 in Selworthy, Somerset, England, was christened on 23 Aug 1658 in Selworthy, Somerset, England[56], and was buried on 7 Mar 1731 in Selworthy, Somerset, England[57].
Robert married Elizabeth Question, daughter of Augustine Question and Mary, likely before or in 1685. Elizabeth was born in Dunster, Somerset, England and was buried on 28 Dec 1738 in Wootton Courtney, Somerset, England[58].
The will of Augustine Question[59] (see Appendix 6) does refer to his son in law Robert Siderfin and daughter Elizabeth (Question) Siderfin and his grandchildren which matches Thomasine’s list of grandchildren mentioned in her will. Robert’s and Elizabeth’s eldest son was Robert and their second son was John and the third son Augustine which is rather interesting given Robert’s father was John and his grandfather Robert and Elizabeth’s father was Augustine.
Only abstracts are available for the wills of Robert 6 Siderfin and his wife Elizabeth (Question) Siderfin.[60]
“Robert Siderfin, Selworthy, yeoman. Will dated 4th Feby., 1731-2, proved 9th August, 1732. Mentions 4 sons, Robert, John, Augustine and Thomas and three daughters, Elizabeth Goodgroom, Jane Siderfin, and Susanna Kent, all rest to my wife Elizabeth sole executrix. Witness: Thomas Trill and Thomas Kent”[61]
“Elizabeth Siderfin, Selworthy, widow, dated 9th Decr. 1738. Mentions daughters Jane, Elizabeth Goodgroome, Susanna Kent; sons, Robert, John, Thomas, Augustine.”[62]

I did check the fiche of the original records for an Elizabeth in the 1690s as well as Stoat’s Transcriptions and both Ancestry and Find My Past. She is listed after Thomas in the will of her Grandfather Augustine Siderfin.
Thomas-Line
40. Anne [Christiana] 6 Siderfin (Thomas 5, Thomas 4, Robert 3, William 2, John 1) was christened on 12 Sep 1675 in St Dunstan in the West[72],[73] London, England. But she was likely born after 1665 but before 1675 as she was mentioned in the will of Thomas 4 Siderfin (Robert 3, William 2, John 1).
Anne Siderfin married Johannes Darch on 9 Feb 1681 in Luxborough, Somerset, England[74].
Children from this marriage were:

41. Elizabeth Siderfin[75].
The Thomas-Line in this 6th generation is somewhat weak. More work could be done at the National Archives looking at the Siderfin Estate Act to determine more about the descendants of Thomas 4 Siderfin (Robert 3, William 2, John 1). Although neither Thomas 5 nor Robert 5 in this Thomas-Line have a son the need to follow the female lines in a one-name study is up to the researcher but it would be a neater writeup.[76]

[14] Apparently Robert and Elizabeth were still living in 1714 when Robert son of Robert and Elizabeth (Blackburn) Siderfin was buried at Selworthy at the age of 25 years as shown on the Brass Memorial in the Selworthy Church (Monumental Brasses in Somerset, Arthur B Connor, ISBN-10, 0901571326, Page 95 Item VII. Reference is made to James Sanders” History of the Siderfin Family of West Somerset” in Connor’s footnote (same page) which states: Robert Siderfin, yeoman, whose will was proved, 9 Aug 1732, mentions a son Robert, as does also his widow Elizabeth, will proved 1740. The History of the family by James Sanders, of South Molton, 1912, is not explicit on this subject. Arthur Connor, in his book on the Brass Memorials, mentions that “Robert Siderfin appears to have been the son of the Robert Siderfin who married Elizabeth Blackford. Richard Blackford, to whose memory there is a brass inscription, dated 1689, at Dunster, mentions in his will his cousin Robert Siderfin.” An interesting aside and it does rather fit into this scheme that I have constructed (the author and see Generation Seven)
