Christy Buller is identified as the husband of Mary daughter of Henry Beard in his will of 16 Sep 1795. I am still looking for this marriage although his second marriage is on Ancestry. Presumably they married at St Mary Magdalen in Bermondsey where all their children are baptized or at St Olave where they are buried. The registers for St Olave are not yet available on line so the answer to that question may lie there.
Christy was often named as executor on various family wills. His occupation was slop seller/cutter which is an individual who makes sailor uniforms. His occupation never varied from that on any of the baptismal entries for his children where the priest always recorded that information. He always lived close to Tooley Street where he has his shop (St Thomas, Bermondsey, Long Lane). His two children that died young and his wife were al buried at St Olave rather than St Mary Magdalen where they baptized their children.
But the mystery remains; who is Christy Buller? I am no further ahead with Christy Buller than I was when I first started to look at genealogy back in 2003 in terms of knowing his parent's names. I know a lot about him now including his possible year of birth. At his burial the priest noted that he was 69 years of age on 13 May 1832 giving him a possible date of birth of 1763. Mary Beard, his wife, was born 15 Dec 1767. From the will of Henry Beard I know they were married by 16 Sep 1795 and their first baptized child at St Mary Magdalen was Elizabeth Jane born 13 Feb 1796 on St Thomas St, baptized 10 Apr 1796 and she was buried 3 Dec 1797 when they were living on Charles Street (all Bermondsey).
Second child Martha Sarah Buller was born 16 Aug 1797 while they were again living on St Thomas St, baptized 10 Sep 1797 at St Mary Magdalen and she married George Caswell 29 Oct 1831 at Saint Benet Pauls Wharf. They had three sons. 1. Clement James Caswell baptized 3 Apr 1831 at Chipping Barnet Herts; he married Sarah Kirby Mar quarter 1863 at Spilsbury Lincolnshire and they did not have any children that I have found thus far. He died Sep quarter 1896 at Horncastle Lincolnshire. 2. Charles Caswell born circa 1833 London; married Maria Mar quarter 1863 at Cambridge, Cambridgeshire and again no children. He was buried Jun quarter 1`893 at St George Hanover Square, London. 3. Henry John Caswell was born circa 1836 at Islington London and died mar quarter 1865 at Spalding Lincolnshire. Martha Sarah (Buller) Caswell died Sep quarter 1872 at Spalding Lincolnshire. When I discovered this family I then understood the naming of one of the children of my ancestor Henry Christopher Buller (son of Christy Buller and Mary (Beard) Buller - they had a son named Clement Charles.
Third child Elizabeth Jane Buller was born 26 Apr 1799 living on St Thomas St, baptized 9 Jun 1799 at St Mary Magdalen. She married Edward Churchyard 31 Oct 1827 at St Dionis Backchurch, London and they had two children Edward born 1834 Blomfield Street Finsbury Circus, London and Elizabeth Jane born 1837 Blomfield Street Finsbury Circus, London. Elizabeth Jane (Buller) Churchyard died in 1837. I have not, to date, discovered anything further on these two children.
Fourth child Emma Hemsley Buller was born 21 Jul 1800 and baptized 14 Sep 1800 at St Mary Magdalen. She married Isaac Debnam first at a noncomformist Church in 1827 and second 2 Jan 1840 at St Dunstan in Stepney. They had two children Elizabeth Sarah Debnam born 4 Sep 1828 and baptized 30 Mar 1837 at Holywell Mount Independent in Shoreditch and Isaac Debnam born 18 Feb 1837 at Haggerstown, London, baptized 30 Mar 1837 at Holywell Mount Independent in Shoreditch. He married Ellen Cox 25 Jul 1858 at Shoreditch. They had six children and I am in contact with two separate lines of this family. I have given them the information on the Buller family; they did not have any.
Fifth child Henry Christy Buller was born 16 Oct 1803 while they were living on Tooley Street, London and baptized 6 Nov 1803 at St Mary Magdalen. He was buried 20 Nov 1803 at St Olave.
Sixth child was Henry Christopher Buller (my 2x great grandfather) born 30 Jan 1805 on Bermondsey St, baptized 24 Feb 1805 at St Mary Magdalen. He married twice.
Seventh child was Robert Huxley Buller born 8 Nov 1806 and baptized 28 Dec 1806 at St Mary Magdalen; buried 18 Oct 1807 at St Olave Bermondsey.
My next Buller research day I will post some of the interesting items on Christy Buller just to refresh my mind and then do a search of available repositories to see if I can glean any new information.
