Racine family

Anne (Anna) Racine married Joseph Jean Baptiste Chénier 15 May 1882 and her parents were identified as Didace Racine and Elisabeth Dorris/Dorace/Dorvas and thus far no one has been able to determine the spelling of this surname. I discovered a James and Mary Dorris coming from County Leitrim, Garvagh Townlands in 1834 and Elisabeth is their eldest daughter. She isn't mentioned on the list however and would have been about 4 years of age. But I will look at the Racine family only and discussion on Elisabeth will wait for a future research day.

Anne was born and baptized 19 Oct 1858 at Ste Scholastique with her parents having married 1 May 1848 at St Hermas.

The parents of Jean Baptiste Racine being thus identified as Michel Racine and Marie Josephte Jubinville who were themselves married 10 Oct 1763 at Sault au Récollet. Finding this marriage was a challenge as the surname of Marie Josephte is Jubinville dit St Michel but the marriage of the parents (as identified in the marriage transcription below) of Marie Josephte identifies her father as Jean Baptiste St Michel married to Angélique Quenneville (the marriage of her parents has Jean Baptiste Jubinville and Angélique Quenneville and Tanguay is most helpful using Jubinville all the time with St Michel as the dit name. The marriage of Jean Baptiste Jubinville and Angélique Quenneville is found in Tanguay and is celebrated 3 Feb 1733 at St Laurent (to be reviewed when the Jubinville dit St Michel family is blogged).

The parents of Michel Racine are thus identified as Joseph Racine and Marie Plante who were themselves married 6 Nov 1725 at St Jean, I.O. This was Joseph Racine's third marriage. He was the son of François Racine and Marie Bauché who were married 29 Oct 1676 at Ste Famille, I.O. François Racine was the son of Etienne Racine and Marguerite Martin and they were married 22 May 1638 at Québec. Since they were the emigrant ancestors they are Generation 1 and amongst the earliest settlers after the return to Québec.

François Racine married to Marie Bauché  is Generation 2. The present generation is descended from two daughters of Etienne Racine and Marguerite Martin - 1. Marie Madeleine married to Noel Simard 22 Nov 1661 at Chateau Richer and she is Generation 2 and 2. Marguerite Racine married to Jean Gagnon circa late 1667 (contract signed 6 Nov 1667 with  notary Claude Aubert) and she is Generation 2.

Joseph Racine married to  Marie Plante 6 Nov 1725 at St Jean Baptiste, I.O. is Generation 3.

Michel Racine married to Marie Josephte Jubinville dit St Michel is Generation 4.

Jean Baptiste Racine married to Marie Françoise Brière is Generation 5.

Didace Edouard Racine married to Elisabeth Dorris is Generation 6.

Anne (Anna) Racine married to Joseph Jean Baptiste Chénier is Generation 7.

The next research day I will continue to collect the documents for this family line including the contract for the first Racine marriage if it is available.
