Cleaning day

Monday is always a return to cleaning and it is the top floor that receives that treatment today. It is much more streamlined these days as the rooms slowly empty out. One of these days I will be ready to sell the house and move. It has been a lovely home for us for more than 47 years. No one would have imagined that we would still be here all these years later. It was brand new when we moved in and the street newly developed. Everyone who was here at the beginning of our life on this street moved on years and years ago. Edward did go to Chapel Hill several times with the girls to look at houses up there but the lots were so small and he loved to garden. The yard always won out I am happy to say as I really did not want to move at any time until now. Now I am ready to move but only because I am getting too old to manage all of it and I do not need a house this big. There are lots of families wanting houses and I am ready to make that possible for someone in the near future now.

Yesterday was clothes washing day which I often do on Saturday in preference but time just made it be Sunday. All on the racks drying although the dryer actually works very well but I like the smell of freshly washed clothes and so I dry them on the racks for the most part. In the winter it puts lots of good moisture into the dry air. The dryer still gets a lot of use when times are busy.

Chicken stew last night for dinner and it was excellent. The dogs loved the smell of it cooking as well but they also like their meal that they have which is good. They were busy outside yesterday although got pelted with rain first thing in the morning. But they are principally house dogs spending most of their time running around the house from window to window to see what is out there.

What interesting news will come into our vision today. There are always surprises like the Prime Minister being in Kyiv yesterday for Independence Day and he will continue his European visits with Poland and Germany. Although I did not vote Liberal (one does vote for the local candidate after all), I am finding that he is heading us towards where we need to be - independent like we used to be with our economy balanced and not having to import in particular a lot of small appliances like dryers, dish washers, washing machine etc etc. We did make all of those things when I was a child. Moving forward with pipelines following appropriate consultation with the First Nations is also part of his agenda. If we do not do it we will be swamped by the money people who just want to take what they can and run with the money and Canada does not benefit enough from all of that. Canada is a good place to invest with huge natural resources and a hard working populace. Canada has twice the population it had when I was a child. We can do this and do it very well.

So cleaning today and perhaps a look at matches but cleaning tends to occupy most of my time. Still staying away from the news for the most part.

Teatime soon and solitaire puzzles.
