Second day of cleaning

Top floor completed yesterday and today the main floor. It is foggy this morning and the rain yesterday was excellent and greatly appreciated. It has been a very very dry summer. It will not save the lawn likely for this year but might help in the spring if we have good snow cover to bring on the grass in the spring.

Not too much work on the matches although did spend some time thinking about the Shared MRCA in Ancestry. This is a good set of data to work with as well especially given the size of their database and the trees that accompany many of the results. Although Ancestry doesn't reveal areas of matching the other reveals are equally interesting and helpful. I tend to have about 150 MRCA hits for each of the four siblings although only half of them are of any large size. With TIMBER being used to take out the common areas the actual size of the match remains unknown and does vary from as much as 50% down to 5% or less depending of course on which chromosome the match is occurring.

Perhaps I will look at FT DNA today. I do have some new matches there that I have noticed and do have quite a few in my database. This one also has trees these days with people linking their accounts to My Heritage.

Other than that it will be a cleaning day once again although I will leave the basement until tomorrow as that works very well and doesn't really occupy much of my day. The robot does all the work for the most part although it does take a few minutes to wash the concrete floor but I like to keep the dust down.

Still absent from the television pretty much although do nip into Question Period in the House of Commons. I do dislike the show for the voters though but occasionally there are glimpses of the government at work. The tariffs have resulted in more Canadians staying home and touring Canada which has increased our tourism trade rather well actually. It has encouraged Ontario (my home province) in particular to think about twinning the Trans Canada in Northern Ontario and does sound like a go these days. It could have been done years and years ago. We took our first trip in Northern Ontario in 1968 with our canoe and almost to Lake of the Woods but we needed to be back so it was a quick look and on our way home again. But Kakabeka Falls was well worth the trip and we spent some time in various Provincial Parks along the way which was a great treat.

Drinking tea and working on the solitaire puzzles.
