Just a few red vaccine cases about in the area I live in back in the mid 1980s but I had never had red measles as a child (amazing in a family of seven children but there it was in my baby book so I checked with my mother who was an excellent record keeper). Yes, that was correct, I never had red measles. When my youngest was being vaccinated and my older receiving the newer vaccine for red measles I opted for also getting the vaccine. The family doctor said no I didn't need that but I said either he did it or I would go elsewhere. After all I had two feet and a car I could go anywhere to get a vaccine and my trust in myself had grown enormously this decade away from everyone and everything that I knew. I did get my vaccine that day. I did not really have a reaction other than the usual with any vaccine. But I did find it interesting the next Sunday at Church when I was organizing the counting (not sure why actually but perhaps there weren't enough people and my husband asked me (he was Church Treasurer) if I could find anyone to help with that. One of the counters already there was pregnant and I said to myself oh I am glad that I had had my measles vaccine a few weeks earlier because I did not want to get red measles for sure at 40 plus but definitely I did not want to pass it to a pregnant woman just by accident like that. Vaccination is very important. We can thank the ingenuity and brain work of Dr Edward Jenner who developed the first vaccine. That was in 1796 that Dr Jenner did that work and it has stood the test of time; we already know what happens in time when vaccinations are not given; disease comes back. Sadly we are seeing red measles on the rise once again.
Yesterday the main floor all cleaned and today the top floor. I did not get much else done as the dogs occupied my time. They are getting inpatient to be home with their family again. The life of a family doctor (also does emergency room medicine) is a very busy one and I am very happy to help out my daughter whenever I can which is why I have the two dogs with me at this time. We should be kind to our medical people especially remembering that all during those long dark days of COVID they went in day after day to look after people in spite of the unknown about that disease in the early days. Their lives revolve around their care of the patients who are in their care. So today on to the top floor and then cleaned for another week. Although when the dogs go home at the end of the week I shall have a huge washing with all the towels I used at the door to wipe the snow off of them when they came in, the covers on the couches and a quick vacuum of the main room where they spend their time will restore my house to pre-dog days until the next time likely when they come to visit. This time the baby has made friends with the older dog two spots over and her bark (she has tried to tone it down) calls him to a race to the back of the yard and off they go. The older dog watches although she does race too sometimes but she enjoys watching her "little sister" having fun.
A little work yesterday on the matches as I continue to plow through thousands of matches one after another as I work my way from the larger matches down. I will continue with that today. The dogs slept on my bed while I worked away at that intermittently yesterday. I did not get to my Church Service but will try for that today but I like to concentrate and do not want to shut the dogs out of the room so that I can do that so it may wait until they go home.
The world has come to a precipice once again as we re-arm to protect ourselves from a violent and aggressive country namely Russia. It is sad really that a country takes it upon themselves to threaten a smaller neighbour (ongoing since 2014). What do they gain but the hatred of the world in the long run. History always make a correction but the cost can be huge. We do not want the life of that dark world where an authoritarian rules the day. Respect for the people is what is needed in all countries; they do the work that keeps a country going.
